Random Maps 2 - Released

This is where our experts try to teach you the very flexible modding system for our previous release - SOW Gettysburg and its add-ons. It's powerful, but dangerous. Post your tips and your questions.

These maps are included in GCM along with the terrain mod, so if you play GCM you don't need to download them here.

Here's the link for Jolly's terrain mod:

Been playing some single-player games on these over the weekend. Lovely maps!

Is there any way of adding feature names (woods, hills, crossroads, creeks) to the minimaps during the creation process?

I know Garnier as well as any of you (meaning that I know him from this game) and I know he does nothing by hand, but instead will build a program to do what he wants.

A lot of times if something is requested he will say no, but eventually down the line you will see those changes requested implemented.

So, I will say I'm sure he could do it, but who knows. I was wondering if we could get a couple more historical maps and he told me that he was only going to do random while improving his map generator.

In the future, with his new tools granted him by Norbsoft, I expect that we will see some neat things.

So when he says no, he sometimes means maybe? That's good news, as he hasn't even said no yet :)

These are terrific maps and it would be great to try them out in some HITS & couriers games. Realistically, I think we would need at least some names on the minimaps to do that.

Here's hoping.

I'm pretty sure MTG can/could/would mod the mini-maps and add names to creeks and hills and such.

And thanks, Garnier, although I do sometimes give you a hard time, I do appreciate everything you've done for us MP players. Without all your hard work (I'm sure literally thousands of hours), the SOW MP community would be. . . well. . . I'm not even sure.

Presumably historic maps would be under the control of Norb. I suspect he may allow Garnier to produce maps of some minor engagements but given the future value of add-ons to NSD I'm guessing most historic battlefield maps would be a no-no.

That's not to say that I won't welcome more random maps as good as these and if Garnier can keep honing his skills on map generation code then it can only be a good thing in terms of saving time and of course cost to NSD.

I can do mini-maps of the style that are in Couriers&Maps fairly quickly now. If there are no buildings, (they have to be found on the battlefield and then plotted by hand on the minimap), I can generate one in less than an hour. But my first priority are maps for the CV expansion.
I can make this march and I will make Georgia howl.
