The Ten Days

This is where our experts try to teach you the very flexible modding system for our previous release - SOW Gettysburg and its add-ons. It's powerful, but dangerous. Post your tips and your questions.

The Ten Days

Post by Jim »

This is an alternate history Mod that contains a series of 10 linked carryover division sized scenarios. You must start at Day 1 and win a Major Victory on each day to progress to the next days scenario. Your surviving troops will periodically gain experience as the days go by.

Alternate Historical Setup: After the unexpected death of General Lee from a stray artillery round on the afternoon of July 2nd, General Longstreet moved the Confederate army south and away from Gettysburg in an attempt to maneuver General Meade into attacking on ground more favorable to the Confederates. Reinforcements are being sent to Longstreet but strong blocking forces at the gaps in the Catoctins are forcing the reinforcements to march farther north.

Mission: Your division is hereby ordered to remain at Gettysburg and to block any and all reinforcements from reaching the Confederate Army. Your division has been reinforced, but any additional troops will be going to the Army to make good the losses of July 1st and 2nd.

This mod was originally released as part of the SOW CD Bonus package. As that is no longer included with the Matrix Games CD, it is being released here for general enjoyment. It is unlikely that anyone can win out this set, however it is interesting to see how far you can get. It is also excellent training for people interested in campaign games as this mod places a premium on winning with minimum casualties.

Happy Fighting

-Jim

Can you give a bit of a hint on how day 1 is to play out?

And how do I win a victory?

By destroying enemy forces or occupying locations (stars)?

I tried putting enough forces on the star in the town, but nothing happened.

And I have also set out skirmishers to delay an enemy advance down the road, but the enemy never moved from their starting point.

I put the game on fast forward, but after 40 minutes of nothing, it was an inconclusive result.

I thought I was to stop the enemy from moving their forces to the town.

So how do I accumulate points (and win)?

I've gone through day 1 three times now.

First time, the rebs did nothing for 40 minutes.

Second round, they immediately attacked.

Third time, nothing again, so I looped around behind them with my cav and took all of their artillery, and then rubbed them out for a loss of 10% of my forces.

Is there a trigger to make them attack at the beginning of day 1?

Did the third time recognise the required major victory to advance you to day 2 ?

Geoff Laver Late of Her Britannic Majesty's 57th Regiment of Foot
"Die hard, my men. Die hard the 57th."

Marshal Beresford wrote in his despatch "Our dead, particularly the 57th Regiment, were lying as they fought in the ranks, every wound in front"

Found a typo in one of the random variants for day 1 that might explain the inaction of the CS forces. They are always supposed to do something. The zip file has been updated with the correction.

The MV is judged on combat points only. You can lose the game if the rebs get to Gettysburg town square as there is a 10,000 point objective that only they can win. The usual standard is +300 points at the end of each battle gets you an MV.

Hi Jim.

I tried to play the first scenario but there were no rebs anywhere. The game ended with just union forces on the map and a score of zero.

conjotter ,

Did you get Jim's updated zip file above in the first Post that he had made a fix to ?

If not, give it a try.

I re-downloaded the zip, fired up scenario 1 and within 2 + minutes my skirmishers ran into Bri. Gen. Robert Ransom and his troops.....and the heavy fighting began !!!!

;)

Oops! No I didn't.

I should have read the previous post before I made my remarks. I'll download the updated mod when I get home and give it another try.

Really appreciate brigade and division-size scenarios. I rarely, if ever, play the larger ones.

Thanks Jim for your work on this.

Regards, CJ.
