Issuing Commands via Voice Input... Working on it... [Download Link and Video]

Post by Michael Slaunwhite »

Hi.

Years ago I use to use voice commands to play many of my games such as Silent Hunter II, Silent Hunter 3 etc, and it worked rather well even though the technology was still being worked on.

I have been reading up on how well the Speech Recognition in Windows 7, and 8 are rather good, but as it stands at this moment, and time it's not programmable (Assigning keys within a game).

I came across this software which I am now working on to give it test drive. It's fully programmable, so if you record a command such as HALT, the voice recording is tide to a key press which you select. So for instance, if in SOW the key is say "H", you would tell the voice command to tie your voice command of 'HALT" to press key "H", etc etc.

Voice command "MAP", you would map it to key "M" (if that is the game key for map), and so it goes.

I'm not saying this will replace the mouse. BUT since voice recognition in Windows 7 works rather well with typing out what you say, wouldn't it be a cool idea to be able to tie this into sending courier messages without having to type in what you want to send off to another MP Player (players not using Teamspeak) of course if you are using Teamspeak to talk too other players, there would be no point in using this because of the conflict.

Just doing some thinking on it... I suggest that if you are wanting to try this out, use it either for Single Player, or MP without using Teamspeak.

So far so good... Here are two Videos. There are more at the link below.

[Part 1 Introduction Video.] *(I decided to reverse the video order so you can either jump right in to watch it in action, or choose to watch the introduction.)*

Hi.

Here is FREE to use Voice Command that will allow you to also create any set of voice commands for any game, and also allow you to remap (in a sense) the voice recognition for windows as well. This program uses the built in Voice Recognition in Windows 7, and in Windows 8.

Now how well does it work? Not sure yet but if you keep training your voice recognition software (in your windows settings) I can't see it really causing you any problems.

Here is the Link to the free reprogrammable software: http://www.killerssoftware.com/VoiceCom ... ommand.htm

Note: Don't let the candy colors freak you out, this does have great potential

Quick Question: Are all Toolbar commands tied to keys?

Example: Map is "M", Command Map is "N", TC All Units "Numpad 2" (I think), etc etc.

If not can they be assigned to a key?

They can be assigned to specific keys in your keyboard.csv.

Okay, for the past while now I finally figured out that this will not work with Windows 8 until new versions of the software are released.

It does work very well under Windows 7. I have a good chunk of voice commands already entered, I just need to know if any of the keys are linked for Column, Leader use Road, Use roads, and a few other commands which are not in the keyboard.csv?

The software works very well, and I am able to command the troops by voice. Any help will be appreciated.

Note: I will be making a small video preview for you to look over, and see if this is something you might be interested in.

Hi.

Okay here is a very small video showing some of the commands I managed so far to add to the voice program. Keep in mind this is only a Alpha meaning it still has some work to be done on it before I'll put it up for download. To make this profile complete, I need the rest of the keys that would represent other game commands.

Nice work, fella.

Just seen the video but not had chance to try out the program yet.

This could reduce mouse clicking significantly :cheer: and add to the realism aspect, especially with HITS view.

As a HITS and MP player, I would be very interested if it could be applied to the Courier commands screens and also work simultaniously with TS.

Would there be a way to switch between this program and TS, pref with a voice command.

Hi, and thanks for the reply.

You can do this two ways. If you are using Teamspeak, there is an option which you can setup a toggle key which has to be pressed to speak via Teamspeak. Now if you happen to have Teamspeak setup for voice activation, you can create a toggle key to activate/deactivate the Voice Command if you need too. The options are there for each profile you create.

It would cut down on clicking, and have you issuing commands quickly without using the mouse. For instance, I could issue an order to a regiment (if I wished) to do a 180 by simply issuing an order by saying "one eighty right column", and once they are finished turning they would then execute a column order, and the voice program would execute the proper number of key presses to get the desired effect.

Or issue Oblique Left Five, and have that regiment execute the oblique move 5 times. It's all how you wish to setup your commands, and it's so easy to do it's amazing.

The only thing stopping me is trying to find the keys that actually control the different tiles. So far I can't find the key for Column, or use roads, or line with reserves, etc. I have checked the proper .csv's, and nothing, all I see are the limited defaults.

Oh one more thing as well, if you happen to use some of the great Toolbar's out there, just create a new profile for each toolbar, this way just load up the voice command profile for it, and off you go.

Cheers.
