In my opinion there was only one Gangsters game out on the market worth playing called "Gangsters" which allowed you too build your very own empire, and battle for total control. The game was really well done, but it did, and still does have a steep learning curve that made even the hard core mental gaming patients curse a few swear words, I am one of those boners, but I mastered the game, and it was well worth the effort....
Many years later...
Now comes another game just recently released called "OMERTA City of Gangsters" by Klypso Media. Will this game bring back what most gamers wished to see in Mafia, and Mafia II?
I have no idea, but you can take a look at it on their website:
http://www.cityofgangsters.com/us/ also I have to mention is that this game has been created by the same programmers who made Tropico 4.

This game looks very promising. Watch the video, and you'll see what I mean.
Apparently, there are two type of purchase. The first is from
GOG.com and the other is Steam, and buy it from a store.
This also has tactical mode as well like X-Com, including full multiplayer, and has a Sandbox mode. So far from watching the video's I have come across, it's well worth the money which is $39.99.
I guess it's time I buy myself a copy from GOG.
Visit this link to purchase the game via

The game is DRM FREE as long as you DO NOT buy it from Steam, otherwise you will have to deal with Steams DRM setup.

Have fun!
I'm still watching all the videos that are there before I make my full decision.
It does look pretty decent. Let me know what you think about it con20or.
Cheers.

UPDATE: I'm taking a much closer look at this game which is the reason why I have edited this post. Unfortunately for me to do that I have to buy the bloody thing. Forty bucks though... Damn, am I that much of a sucker?
Anyone who knows me knows the answer to that question.
So how did you like it con20or?

Not bad - although I got killed in the tutorial, which was crazy. Looks great, the opening scene with the rain hitting the street is very nice eye candy.
I had Gangsters 2 I think, never got into it though.
How far does the tutorial go Mike?

OH God, not Gangsters 2. I have it, and it is the worst follow up to any game out there. The first Gangsters is the one to own, it's actually a very good solid game, number two on the other hand is a pile of dog poo.
Um, I'm not too sure how many is in the tutorial. Like yourself I died three times now. If I was to take a stab at it I would say Three, but I'm not too sure.
Here is a video of the tutorial. I haven't watched it yet, but from what people are saying about it I'm going to take a deeper look into it just to make sure I didn't miss anything.

Here is the original Gangsters Organized Crime PC Game which you can grab from GOG.com for about $5.99. Since it's from GOG, it should be DRM FREE.
Now this game I do recommend highly. There is a learning curve to this game, but once you understand what you can do you can get lost in this title.

Well I gave in, and bought the game. I am seeing some very interesting areas in this game that do remind me of the first gangster game so I thought I would take it for a full spin. You can't tell anything from a demo version (never could).
I'll let you know how it goes con20or.
