Version 1.6 Courier Bug

In a MP game yesterday, free text messages to another player in the direct chain of command would come back to the original sender. It would not go to the intended recipient. This happened to two different people sending messages several times.

So the courier message wouldn't leave the sender and the message would just pop up? Or it would leave, then ride off, and then return to the player?

Thanks MTG,

If this reappears let me know. Try and get some more info - what mods you were using, some MP logs, etc. Who was sending the message - who was receiving it, did anyone die and respawn around then, etc.

Yeah because we tested free text courier for 1.6, and it worked fine a few nights ago.

The first instance was at the start of the game. I was a division commander and sent a message to a brigade commander, a human. No courier was spawned. Five seconds later, I received the message. The brigadier did not. I subsequently sent a number of other messages to the brigadier over the course of the battle without any problems. Another player also had this same problem. Only in his case, several messages were returned to him. I have never seen this prior to the 1.6 patch. We were using the GCM and my couriers.csv mod. There were no player deaths involved.

Edit: Also - check in your inbox/outbox - which does it show in?

In several of our recent MP games, this bug has been popping up frequently when players are sending messages to various human commanders. The effect can be minimized if the player has either himself or the recipient selected in the battlefield view. If he has some other regiment or another commander selected, the probability of the message bouncing back to the author increases significantly, (33-50% failure rate).

It has also been noticed that on occasion that a player will receive a message that was not addressed to him. I have experienced this myself. Since this is new to 1.6, it may be related to having the courier recipient automatically picked to be whoever is being viewed in the battlefield screen.

Ok, I had hoped it had dissappeared when i never heard back. We'll look into it and try to replicate.

Stefan, Mitra and Spoom were all in the last game where the bug was frequently encountered. They'll be able to show you the problem.

This also happened to myself and Kerflummoxed in this same game.

I believe the message came back to me after only a few seconds. I don't think a courier was spawned but I cannot be sure about this.
