A Dispatch from the Front....

All,
It has been discovered........a 300,000 man,(37,500 Sprite), Battle,(Line of Site), will overwhelm the game and my computer. The SR8 Eckmuhl OOB - Full will fit on one of Brother Garniers' Nap Maps from edge to edge. The computer / AI cannot think fast enough to run everything. I had handfuls of units in firefight range just standing there. Units took forever to react to orders, etc. Artillery blazed away nicely, though. Still looked bloody awesome.
We have found the limits, I think.

Maybe it's time to upgrade your pentium 4?

Let's see -
Dedicated 4Quad Processer
8 Gigs RAM - bypassed and tied in directly (not seperated by the core)
ATI Radeon 512 plus Vid card
600 Gigs harddrive
Nope, sorry, it's the AI, not the Comp.

I was just joking with you, but now that I see you system specs, mabye your video card is limiting things a bit for you.
My video card is a bit dated now, but its an AMD 6970 wih 2048 mb of mem compared to your 512mb.
And now you have me curious, so I'm going to try the same OOB with line of sight.

Jack did you try adjusting the aicount=95 to something like aicount=500 ?
Also - What were your FPS when playing?

Just did a quick test.
After 25 minutes I had almost 15,000 casualties and the enemy had over 19,000.
You're right the cannon fires off quite well, but some of the inf stands around and others keep firing, meleeing.
I vaguely remember the game hardware limitations being discussed a long time ago, and I think the conclusion was its the graphic card that really is the bottleneck, not the CPU.

R and DaV,
Yes, I also went back and ran my own diagnostic - reality is maybe the Vid Card. DaV, will try and do a reset with the aicount. Am currently using 55 as the default. Have to go back and check the FPS. I always forget to look.

R - Was very much aware you were joking with me.

I'm jealous! It sounds like you guys have some pretty good systems while I'm stuck using my ole Commodore 64. However I think I may upgrade to the Commodore 128 pretty soon. :p

Those specs don't mean much.

There are quad core processors that would be really slow for this game. There are Radeon video cards with 512MB ram that would run it really slow too. (I used to have one.) And there is ram that could be really slow as well even if you had a lot of it.
Granted, the ai will have a limit which can probably be configured by the aicount. But a faster processor will be able to run a higher aicount. (There may be a hard limit in the code but we won't know if we've reached it until we have a much faster computer that runs as bad as a slow one at this limit.)
