Creating our own Corps

Two of my long-time friends and I play multi-player several times a week, mostly cooperatively. Here is what we would like to do if possible: to create our own divisions in order to create a corps of 2-3 divisions. We would like to be able to mix and match regiments from various OOBs to form our own brigades and divisions.

Knowing that this has probably been answered somewhere, I would appreciate someone sending me a link that would explain how to do so.

Thank you.

I'm relatively new here so forgive me if I'm wrong or misleading you but I believe what you want to do is very simply achieved using Garniers great Order of Battle Editor. There is also a very good video tutorial by Michael Slaunwhite explaining how to use the editor. They can both be found in Garniers Toolbox at the top of this section.

Not quite what you are asking for but we have recently started using an excellent Scenario Building tool for MP games with the Kriegsspiel group. Can be used for MP or SP. Trying it out with a few more games but stick around.

Thanks, guys. I'll start by checking Garnier's toolbox.

I watched the video of the Random OOB generator, but I'm not looking for something random; I'm looking to pick and choose the brigades I want. So I'll keep reading.

Hmm, I sort of stayed away from this post, due to the fact that what you are trying to do is fairly simple when it comes to modding, but not that simple if you don’t know how the OOB works..

With that said, there is not going to be a one-line-answer-here that will solve this problem, other than someone doing it for you.

So, here goes…..

One way of doing this would be to find an OOB that is close to what you are trying to do, and then just edit that OOB to your liking.

So, I would need to know how much of an explanation that you would need to achieve this.

Are you partially familiar with how the OOB structure works or do you have any idea about how it works……?

Are you familiar with how the numbering system works with the OOB pertaining to the Corps \ Division \ Brigades \ Regiments…..?

This information will help to guide you in the right direction, without confusing you by writing down stuff that you have no idea about what I'm trying to say!

Yeah, it helps to look at an already created OOB and get familiar with how they work. Once you are familiar with the structure, they are actually very simple to make, especially if you are just re-organizing a current OOB. If you haven't already, I highly recommend grabbing the SDK. It contains all of the OOBs from the game, including a manual that explains everything you need to know about the OOB structure. But like I said, you can get familiar by just looking at one of the stock OOBs in excel since all columns are explained in the top section of it.

Davinci and Little Powell: I just got the SDK and I'm going through it now. I don't know enough to ask the right questions as of yet, but I'll go through the SDK and OOBs and I hope to know more of what I want to ask.

And the only modding I've ever done was with the old Sid Meier's SMG. I created about 200 scenarios for that game....but it was so easy to do. This looks a lot more difficult.

Thanks.

I'll try to help you out with this, this is a very large Division of the Confederate Army under General Pickett .
Concentrate on the numbers going from right to left instead of going from left to right as we have been taught in school. I’ll explain why…..

Think of the numbers as something like this…..10,000 , 1,000 , 100 , 10
Or…..10 , 20 , 30 , 40 , 50 , 60 – will equal a Brigade Commander .

100 , 200 , 300 , etc… - will equal a Divisional Commander

1,000 , 2,000 , 3,000 – will equal a Corps Commander

10,000 - will equal a Commander of the Army

Now – there is not a 1,000 due to the fact that you don’t place a comma in that number – this just helps to explain it better. The correct value would be 1000.

Basically, forget about the E Column – All of the values will be a 2 for the Confederates, and a 1 for the Union.

The same with the F Column – All of the values will be a 1 for both armies.

You see how General Garnett – is listed as a 10 – this is because he is the first brigade listed under General Pickett.

So, any regiments that are listed under Garnett – must go in order starting with the next number eleven , and the next regiment must go in order from that to twelve , and then to thirteen, fourteen, etc…

You stop counting when you have reached the last regiment in that particular brigade.

So, the next brigade must go in the order of the first brigade – but you have to go by tens , so the next brigade will start as twenty , and the regiments will start at twenty-one, twenty-two, twenty-three…..and so on…..

Think of it like this – Divisions equal (hundreds) ….Brigades equal (tens) …..Regiments equal (ones)

The next step will pertain to adding in a Divisional Commander, adding Supply Wagons, a Courier and so on.

But, you have to understand this part first.

......The other side of the coin is to send or post what you want or who you want, (units, Commanders, etc.), and have me, (or someone else), do it for you.
