Camera and map questions

I am new to the game and have a couple of questions.
I have noticed on some videos of the game the camera being able
to fly high above the map but my camera stays behind whatever unit
I am controlling. Is there a way to activate this or is it a mod
I am seeing?
Also only the eye icon and the objective star show up
on the strategic map view . Is there a way to get other icons for the strategic map?
I am just learning the game and maybe I am not being able to find the keyboard commands for these
things.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Wayne,

Sounds like you're playing at a high difficulty level - probably 'Historic'. Try 'Normal' - you can move you're camera freely then and you will be able to see all friendly forces on the map plus some enemy ones if they are visible.

Alternatively, try the 'custom' difficulty setting and choose the options that suit you best.

Hope you enjoy the game.

Thank you.

Yeah, according to SOW, historic play is the new Normal. ...and Historic is REAL historic.

Oh, and Welcome :)

and Historic is REAL historic.
Not quite. Couriers are at division level. Custom level has to be chosen to get true historic play. Oh, and you have to turn off the distance to target cheat too. That's how RebBugler has played this game from day one.

Well, er, too REAL for me, I need my maneuverable balloon with radio-gui dispatching. :P
