A question concerning upper echelon command and AI.

Post by SHarris »

Allow me first to apologize profusely if this has already been covered in the past (as I'm sure it must have been), but try as I might I can't seem to find a relevant post here.

I'm new to these forums, though I've had both Scourge of War and Take Command for quite some time, but I'm only just now really diving into the meat and potatoes of the game. I'm simply wondering if there is a setting that I'm missing that would allow my subordinates to do as they please unless otherwise directed. I never really tried playing Corps or Army level command scenarios before (I almost always play at brigade level "in the saddle", as I find it a more visceral an experience). At any rate, I downloaded and installed the mod that includes the "Gettysburg, 3 days in 7 hours" scenario, and am hoping that I'm not going to have to babysit all of of my units as the army quickly grows to epic proportions. I'm simply wondering if there's a way to play the game where I can sit back and observe, whilst sending orders when the need presents itself.

As it stands, I start the scenario, A.P. Hill tells me that he's found enemy militia to his front, (Archer and Davis send similar messages), and I watch in dismay from the rear as...nothing happens. Nobody moves. Not even the enemy cavalry. Is this a symptom of my lack of understanding of the courier system? Again, I apologize if my post is gratingly redundant.

At the beginning of this scenario a ridge is between the opposing forces, so no LOS. There must be LOS for the AI to react, move your forces forward to begin with. Thereafter LOS is maintained between armies for the most part so you can sit back, watch the action, and interact as you wish.

Thank you very much RebBugler. I had wondered if that may be the case. Thanks for taking the time to clear that up! Love the games, and I'm loving this forum!
