In the end of game dump that shows up in the 'Work' directory e.g. SowGB_gamedb_10-21-13_23-23-10.csv, I have found examples of the following values. Most are obvious:
Resting,
Limbered, Limbering, Unlimbering,
Moving, Engaged, Detached, Captured, Deceased
But what do these last ones mean?
Retreating, Rallying, InTrouble, Broken, Routed, Lost
I realize they match game states, but I have to admit that even in game I get a confused as to whether broken is more severe than routed or retreating, and I don't know that I have encountered 'Lost'. Do 'Rallying' and 'InTrouble' only apply to officers?

I'll take a guess and say that broken and lost refer to when a unit has reached their maximum value of casualties and have ran from the field.
This is usually seen as a broken-pixel display on the Jump-Map when the units run off of the map.
I see this more in the artillery-crews than the infantry due to the artillery-crews starting with less men-per-unit.

I have noticed that when I pull a unit back after heavy fighting and they are no longer engaged with the enemy a green-flag-icon appears to indicate that they are in the Rallying state.Do 'Rallying' and 'InTrouble' only apply to officers?
The in-trouble is probably a sign that the unit is not in the command-radius of their officer, and are about to break!.....but that is strictly a guess.

Thanks. further delving seems to show that Lost is applied to officers whose subunits are all Routed or Captured.
In Trouble appears to be officers whose subunites are all Routed, Captured, Broken or Retreating. I'm not sure that is a comprehensive list, I have a small sample size.
Still not sure what Rallying means when applied to an officer.

Hmm, this is the only unit-rally that I have seen in the game. If it happens to officers, I haven't noticed it!

Retreating = withdrawing after a morale failure but can still be ralliedIn the end of game dump that shows up in the 'Work' directory e.g. SowGB_gamedb_10-21-13_23-23-10.csv, I have found examples of the following values. Most are obvious:

Rallying = having retreated and halted but not yet good enough morale to return to following orders (I think)
InTrouble = not sure, probably close to breaking point and a retreat
Broken = the worst level of morale above Routed. This status requires an officer to immediately rally the unit or it will rout.
Routed = fleeing the field and cannot be rallied and brought back to follow orders
Lost = applies to brigades or batteries where every regiment or gun has routed (I think)
Broken is more severe than Retreating but less severe than Routed.
These are just my take on things, I could be wrong.

@SaddleTank - Yeah, that sounds about right!
I'll add that the unit that I retreated to get them to show the Rallying-Status , I can still control to re-enter the fighting.

SDK p.89
evtintrouble: This event is triggered when the unit defined in the ID Name column: is in trouble. This state can be seen by the displaying of the in trouble icon over that unit. It usually means that all of their men need rallying and that this unit is really no longer a fighting Force.
