Scourge of War Boards

Very impressed with what I've seen of the Nap Mods, both RTW and Kriegspiel.

Had some spare time over the weekend and was mulling over whether it would be possible to mod the above with the sprites available. Rag-tag rebs for the Texas forces and assorted French for Santa Anna's. Appreciate that this would have limited scope but it could be fictionalised to encompass larger forces (i.e. US declares war). The Mexican forces might be used for an 1846 mod altho we'd struggle for appropriate US sprites.

Anyway....here's a quick try out to see what it would look like based on an OOB for San Jacinto. My Mexican Flag sucks but gives you an idea of what might be done. It would be nice to see a Mexican flag and these Texian ones receive a proper make over. :whistle:

IroNBMike - thanks. Thought it would an interesting add on given it's a theatre we're highly unlikely to see covered elsewhere.Some new flags, some OOBs. Prob sandbox mainly. As you say, no Alamo given the restrictions of the current engine.

Okay. I'll start looking at some potential OOBs and tweaks to relevant csv. If there is flag-making template available I'd like a copy. If not, would someone consider making a Mexican flag?

Possibly drop further updates in the Mods section of the forum though?

I assume both sides used smoothbore muskets and cannon? You could probably play this with the Napoleonic mod, with maybe a bit of weakening of the cavalry?

Saddletank...yes, seems a good fit. The Mexican forces were armed with the Brown Bess or in some cases the Baker rifle. I'll need to do more research on the Texians but am assuming a mix of muskets, shotguns and long rifles.

Cannons. Smoothbore I believe. At San Jacinto the Mexicans had a 12 lb smooth bore The Golden Standard. So sounds about right. The Texians had two lighter guns....The Twin Sisters. Further sources appreciated, incl on armaments for US army at that time.

Unless I'm missing a major detail, the Alamo could work in the current engine, but it would be a lot of work and it wouldn't be perfect. Since the Alamo was mostly a series of buildings, each building could be given an ON TOP OF line in the LS file so troops would stand on top of them. There were only about 200 defenders, so they could be split up in small companies and placed on the buildings.

But the next engine on the other hand is where something like this could really shine..

I take your point. It would need defensive bonuses allocated to that area of the map and it would look odd when attempting to reinforce/attack in that troops would suddenly pop up 20ft in the air. Lol. It might be doable but I fear that Alamo might be rembered for the wrong reasons. :laugh:

I also had a go at some forts using elevated terrain in TCM. Not sure it worked out.

Do we have any flat roofed buildings in the SoW releases?

As you say, SOWW sounds a step forward.

Personally I am happy to stick to field engagements. So Fannin's battle, Jan Jacinto in the War of Independence. And perhaps some of the 1846-7 battles too if folks aren't too unhappy about incongruous US uniforms?
