Well, I am a One-Hundred-Percent Open Play Player!

I like the hunt them down, no objectives style of playing. I also gave the enemy army at least 20,000 more men than I have in my army to make it absolutely impossible to ever defeat \ destroy them.

But, you forgot to add a poll-option to this topic!

Don't know how to do poll options except when at a strip club!!!!! I play normal Sandbox and the AI is tough.
20K more enemy can make the difference, but it's how the game is measured and played.

I'm still pushing buttons for the Seanario Design Editor. You know damn well that the enemy is marching down those roads and if the SandBox Positioning is right, the enemy will keep coming regardless of how many losses they have. That is one clue to beat this game.

I play (and it's summer) about 10 hours a week, depends if I work weekends or if i hve a friend over???

Open Play for me. The same as Davinci. Not sure about the 20 000 extra men but an interesting concept worth trying out.

Well, I'm not too sure that I know how that option works either. I've never used it!

I might be missing the point here, if so disregard the before information.

If you are referring to the enemy units marching straight into your lines there are several things that you can do to make the game a lot better.

1) Increase the firing-range on the muskets. The AI will stop and form a line once they are within firing range. They will then advance to close the distance between the two-armies.

Basically, the AI will constantly push forward, so the farther-away they are when the fighting starts, the longer the battle will be.

2) Increase the AI \ Thinking cycles in the SOWGB.ini file. (example below...it doesn't have to be 200)

[DEBUG]
DbgLvl=1
aicount=200
That is one clue to beat this game.
Hmm, in the hundreds of games that I have played, I have never defeated the AI.

But, my definition of winning is destroying the enemy forces while still having a fighting army intact.

Quite Impossible!

The reasoning behind this is that the AI will hold a large reserve force while fighting. It's sort of like how the Union-Army under General G.B.McClellan did in real life.

So, this allows me to throw my whole army at his and hope that I don’t run into the reserve forces which will activate them, and bring them into the fight.

Impossible to win, but sometimes losing is a better challenge.

Really, I beat the AI about 40-60, well maybe 30-70, but then again it's how it's measured or how low you set the bar.

No, the enemy does not march into my line but they do follow the roads and if the roads are right, they will keep on coming and just pile up making a mess, making the batlle very unrealistic, it makes you quit.

I would love to see the scenario build file on 3 Days 7 hours, maybe making a scenario isn't that hard. I refer again to the Talon Soft/HPS Games. Making a scenario there was rather simple. I don't see the hold up here with SOW.

I always play Sandbox in SP, and in MP our group uses one of the mods on here - the Scenario Generator - to create interesting MP games.

If I had one gripe with NSD its that they focus too much on historical scenarios. I know the game has to include these and their inclusion is something that other RTS games don't have, and I realise a lot of players enjoy them, but others don't and I would like to see more focus on different sandbox variants (with objectives, etc), a scenario generator and a slicker MP lobby in any subsequent release.

I usually play a 3-4 hour match on Sundays with a group of 3-4 people (usually a coop vs AI) and then may play a few 3 hr sandbox solos vs AI during the week.
