Questions, Concerns, and Praise!

Praise B)

You all did a wonderful job of capturing the feeling, in my mind, of Napoleonic battles very well. The game does not play like ACW with a pasted on Waterloo chrome. It has the right things to make this a new successful series, however, I do have concerns as well. I know some have experienced performance issues, but my computer which is quite old, does not have any which is a plus.

The game looks great as well and the aesthetics are perfect. Now with all of this praise I do have some other things to bring up.

Concerns :(

The Context Menu- I like the idea a lot in theory, and I have played for several hours trying to adjust to it but it is proving game breaking. I can maneuver all right, but I can only sometimes be able to open the enemy context menu to issue charges. I have yet to be able to command any of my units to charge without having them simply move into the enemy formations.

Toolbar- The Icons, in my opinion, are too small and are difficult to use. This may just be due to my background in the GB series, but I do find it odd. I imagine a Mod could easily fix this right up.

Sandbox Battles- This is where I get the most of my playtime, but I am having trouble in this one. I will set it for division vs division battles and select a division command. However, even with balancing off, I only have a part of the division ever deployed. These divisional level games look like large brigades. The corps games are equally odd. Am I doing something Wrong?

Questions :S

As per above, is the only way to melee to select a battalion, right click on an enemy battalions flag to open the context menu? This process, if I can get it to work, seems so much longer than just clicking charge like in GB.

I must admit I have primarily played as the British, but do the French use Attack Columns in this game? Or is the only column, besides march, the column by divisions? I know I read on one of these threads that there is debate on how the French attacked, but in my limited experience I have always believed that the Attack Column was favored for myriad reasons.

I am a broke college student and found a way to save for this game which is a Diamond that needs some polishing. I know you guys can get this done and I believe this is one of the better launches I have ever seen especially for an "indie" game.

Thanks for any help,

Evan

When I want to charge I just right-click on the Regiment Flag and select charge. I think it has to be stationary though yo do that.

Huh? Enemy has no context menu.

To charge you must be engaged. When your troops are making smoke, engaged, right click on unit, after selecting, and charge option is there, like several other 'engaged only' commands.

Division level Sandbox is almost always balanced with the three arms. Try the second OOB offering with the cavalry mix, maybe that's the issue, I always use it.

For those accustomed to GB type play, Grog toolbar works best. Buttons too small, try a lower resolution.

Hope this helps

Well that explains my charge problems! I will try the sandbox issues this weekend to see if the OOB change helps.

Thanks for the help!

Are you sure you are picking the right level? The lowest unit - the ones with the icon, musket, horse, cannon - are brigades. So the next level up is the division commander. Also - are you sure the other forces in your division did not spawn over a hill, or are hidden in a nearby clump of trees?

That is correct. The unit has to be stationary to receive a charge command. This reflects history, the infantry would move stop, do something , then charge if ordered.

Well, almost correct. They WILL be stationary because they have acquired a target and stopped. The key is that they are engaged, and once they are engaged the Target Menu will be available which includes the engagement commands, charge, advance and withdraw.

On the other hand, cavalry don't have to be stationary. They can charge on the run when within targeting range, as the Target Menu, once available, will confirm.
