Some advice for playing this in the best way?

Hi!

I am trying to play SOW in the best (or most enjoyable) way possible.
Therefore I would like to use Couriers and experience order delay etc.

As default setting, the Waterloo battle on Army level (the last one) has all officers on Take Charge From AI. So I guess I should turn that all off before issuing orders?

Maybe I didn't look correctly but is there a message to actually occupy a building?

Is there a way to have brigades move forward less than 300 yards? Or even more than 300?

I somehow feel a bit limited in my options sometimes.

Never tried couriers. Even though I am slowly figuring out how to beat (in most cases) the AI. I would believe that using the courier would really hinder getting organized when beginning Sandbox. It takes ample time to line up your Corps in Sandbox, wish that could of been fixed. I agree order delay will add realism, but I would get frustrated if the enemy attacks me while I'm orgainizing my troops.

Not yet. Our group is modding the game. We definitely will have less than 300 yd advance commands, though probably not more as the toolbar real estate is limited. We've added a 100 yd advance button.

I haven't seen an occupy buildings order and I really think there should be one as playing HITS is quite hard to see the correct perspective to click inside a fortified place to get a battalion to enter it.

Remember the AI or player-controlled enemy in MP is using couriers as well so there is no disadvantage to using them, just increased realism (increased delays for orders).

Our group sets "couriers by brigade" in the options.

For more realism set the camera distance from your general at 10 yards, turn off road march markers, turn off the radar, turn off flags, set tree transparency to about 100 or 75 or 50 yards, do not set walls to turn transparent with trees and do not toggle trees off at all during the game.

Have fun! :P

P.S. if this playing environment appeals to you please join our MP group as we play under these conditions all the time.

Yes there is.

You can give a courier order to "Move to this Location", then select one of the fortified Locations from the list of locations. I suggest also to TC the unit ("Take Charge on") so it will not be moved out by the AI.

It all adds to the realism for me. I LOVE getting frustrated trying to sort out my lines and check out trouble-spots! Adds to the realism and fun, just like it should be.
