Visiting Waterloo

Post by Volunteer »

In August I am likely to make a first visit to the Waterloo battlefield devoting a whole day to the experience. (I know a few days would be better including visiting Quatre Bras and Ligny.)

Do forum members have any recommendations on how best to organise my time, go to and see what, and recommend some preparatory reading -- particularly a good guide which wouldn't be a brick to carry?

Doubtless such a visit will end with my thinking 'If Napoleon had only done this differently ........'

In my preparations for the visit I have found this admirable project mapping the 1815 campaign. The link below gives details and access to the project itself. If you love maps you will be in for a treat! :)

Enjoy your visit. I passed through Brussels on a connecting flight last week for HOW15. It's too bad I wasn't able to make arrangements to visit Waterloo. If you get to visit Quatre Bras, let us know about the QB farm at the crossroads. I know it's been in danger of being demolished as of late.
