Carryover and Experience

I used to play this game, and create mods for it (smoke mod, for example), all the time. But I took a break, and now I'm coming back. This is a wonderful community, and I've used so many mods here that I'm very thankful for.

Anyway, I'm creating my first series of carryover scenarios with two entire armies on a 1:1 scale, and I was hoping I could get some help. Is there any way that units can gain experience over the course of the scenarios, via a command in sowgb or some other means, or is this not possible?

Also, I'm planning on casualties carrying over, but I notice from other reference scenarios that regiments will still have a unit count embedded in the oob for scenarios following the initial one. Is this simply ignored if you fill in a number value for CarryOverCasPct?

Thanks!

There is a Casualty Carryover Tool built in Excel available somewhere which does exactly the job you are looking for. I use it to process losses, replacements and experience drops/gains between battles in the campaign I am running. Hays is the author and I am sure its still available somewhere.

Did he happen to publish it in these forums? I ran a search for his name and couldn't find anything.

Just a warning - its absolutely critical that after creating your Battle OOB and Scenario, you do not alter either in any way or else the Master OOB will be out of synch with the Battle OOB and post-battle data dump and the updates won't run. I have been a frequent victim of doing that :(

You can also choose your own set of win/lose loss variables for replacements and wounded etc as well as control the pace and circumstances under which unit experience goes up or down. I tend to prefer a fairly modest rate of change but others may want something more dynamic.

Remember a unit's surgeon rating comes into play with this tool so create these values with care. Having all low ratings will cause most wounded to not return to the colours, and having exceptionally skilled doctors will cause actual losses in battle to be surprisingly low!
