xml names file

I am creating new OOBs. It appears there is only one master location for this file, is that right? Is there any way to have a names.xml file relevant to just a single scenario (say in that scenario folder)?

Does the names xml file have to be on every players PC in an MP scenario?

Hey Tank. Yeah, I refer to it as a stand alone scenario. I believe it's the 3 key that will dump (Documents\SowWL\Scenarios\SandBox) from a sandbox play the right file to use for the scenario.csv file. Otherwise it's the 9 key, don't recall at present which is which. The right one will appear in the sandbox format, the other will be in the normal scenario.csv form.

Don't know specifically about the mp question, but I know mods must match up with the host to work 100 per cent correctly.

Thanks Reb. My question was really about building and maintaining this xml file. It has to be in that one location (in the Languages subfolder) correct? A scenario cannot use a names file from anywhere else?

So if a player wants to add new units to an OOB he must either modify the stock xml file or add one to his mod?

Yes, all those procedures are necessary when altering the xml files for mods, to the best of my knowledge.

Can you have entries in your xml names file that are not in any OOB file? Or must every xml name entry be present somewhere in at least 1 OOB?

Another question.

If the NAME1 and NAME2 entries for a unit in the names.xml and OOB.csv do not match will this cause problems?

Thanks guys.

You can have names in OOBNames.xml that are not is a specific OOB.csv file.

The Name1 and Name2 column on the OOB*.csv file are only to help keep things organized in the OOB file. The text in these columns is not used anywhere else in the game.
