Trying to simulate count d'Erlon attack in "same old style", it is possible with Toolbar Expanded - Grog, just push move forward button.

very nice. Is there any way to keep the formations intact like this using the standard toolbar and hotkeys?

I use expanded toolbar mod, after patch troops very well keep they formations.
