Map sizes

How big can maps be? Is 10 mi x 10 mi the limit, or can they be larger?
They can be larger , but I'm sure that you would run into a problem here and there.How big can maps be? Is 10 mi x 10 mi the limit, or can they be larger?
I did test a 15 Mile Map that was empty and the FPS were really too low to try to add any objects to it.
I was thinking about trying one that is roughly 12 Miles but haven't found the time to really start and finish it.
