Individual Guns Running Away

Post by rschilla »

What is up with the idea of individual guns in a battery packing up and leaving? I can see if the battery is getting pounded but I am talking about a battery which has taken no casualties and has plenty of ammo.

Its a game feature. The artillery battery should be equivalent to a military company or at most a battalion but NSD chose to set it at the level of a brigade in the Gettysburg game and it has stayed that way in WL. Thus the battery commander is the equivalent of a brigade commander and each gun is "set" at the level of a separate subordinate unit (battalion). The guns therefore check morale individually just as battalions in a brigade do and some will run away while others stay in action.

I raised the subject with NSD years ago in the GB game.

Its a fault of the game design but at this late stage we must live with it.

Thanks for the quick reply. There seem to be a lot of similar design flaws.

We did alot of work for Waterloo on artillery behaviour. Guns that are unsupported by infantry will not move closer than a pre-specified distance to enemy units, casualties will increase this - so support your batteries :)
