Cleaning Up The SOWGB.ini File

Hey All....
Hope the New Year is off to a good start for you.

I have alot of trash in this file.....What is the minimum I need....what can be erased? Not sure if it's my video card or this file, but lately while playing, the screen will go black and minimize in start menu and I'll have to click to restore....and sometimes the game will just crash?

That is a Gettysburg .ini file I hope! If your Waterloo .ini file looks like that no wonder you're having problems.

As a personal rule I disable all mods except the ones I want to specifically play in that session, having dozens active can cause all kinds of problems with several instances of a critical file. That could well be your problem.

I also never touch the .ini file, its merely a record log of the game's settings and you are better off adjusting those settings from the game menu.

"the reb" - You don't really have to clean that file up, just rename it to something else and Start the Game.

The game is designed to create another one but you will lose all of your settings.

So, just Open the (renamed) one and adjust the settings in the newer one.

I don't think that that is the problem with the game shutting down, how much memory are you running?

Ok thanks.....

I just erased a post regarding an issue that I just resolved and man my heart was beating.....Norton Power Eraser stated that SOWGB.exe Shortcut was at risk? So without thinking I gave Norton permission to fix....Well it fixed me ok....and erased my exe file.......no game....I posted HELP!!!!! Then I found Setup Application for 1.61....ran it and appears I'm up and running.....Goes to show how dependent one can be on this game.....

I'm running Windows XP Intel E4500 2.20 GHz , 2.00 GB of Ram. Yes....been advised to update. In large games I run at 4-6 FPS.....which been advised that's too slow for multiplayer action....And then there is discussion that Windows 10 and Gettysburg don't work together? Another topics.....

Pretty much anything is better than Norton, but AVG and Avira seem to get the better ratings. I've used them both, and Avast in the past and was satisfied with them all, they also don't tell me that SoW has a virus in it!

"the reb" - Now that you have solved that problem, did you bother to check to see if the deleted file was still in the (ReCycle Bin) that is located on the Desktop?

Also - even without the Shortcut on the Desktop - You can run the Game by using the SOWGB.exe from the ScourgeofWar -Directory.

My Guess - is that the 2GB of Ram is why the game is shutting down!

You are probably running too many other programs in the background.

Also - I ran the Game under Windows 10 Home and Windows 10 Pro - for the Single_Player Game - No Problems!

Thanks everyone....I'll check out the AV's and yes I checked the Recycle Bin.....I concluded that Norton eats it up....My other forum friends tell me to update so I could go MP.....well see!!!!
