Any of you making maps, should be making maps of 3,6,9,and 12 mile, NOT 2.5, 5, 7.5, and 10. Keep the same pixel size of 256, 512, 768, and 1024. This will fix potentially MANY issues that have plagued this game regarding scale.
Currently if you set an UNMODIFIED unit to move 2.5 miles in one hour in the unitglobal, it will move 3 miles in one hour in the game. Basically the unit only moves 5/6 of what it should. To compensate, NSD has increased the movement rate to adjust. BUT, the "off" scale probably affects sighting and weapon range. This error originally discovered by Wrangler in TC2M, and Proposed by me to NSD when I was there. The forces that be pulled out their Dick Tracy calculator watch they got from a Crackerjax box, and fed me a line of BS. Of course everything I said was tossed back, so....
From now on, after the current crop of maps, I will make all maps to this scale, (Napoleonic Too. So if you set a unit to go 3mph, it will go 3 miles in one hour in the game.

Currently in the mix being modded or made
Little Bighorn - 10 mile
Rosebud - 7.5 mile
Honey Springs - 7.5 mile
Seven Days Battle - 10 Mile
Gettysburg - 10 Mile.
After that?????

MarkT - You probably meant "512" instead of "521" small typo.

A twelve-mile-Map will work but it brings the FPS down to single digits in all of My testing at the start of a game. I never tried it doing any type of fighting or LOS which would bring the FPS down even farther.

But, I never tried it on a Newer Computer either , so that might be the problem.

Davinci, yes typo, thanks.

I have tested up to 20. FPS would be a killer.
BUT, at least people know they can try.

On single player, single digits are not as important as multi-player.
All of my maps I test in Multi-player to keep FPS up.

Sometimes even VERY subtle changes jumps it a lot.

I have at least 5 machines with superior horsepower.

An added Note:
Since the projected change of map scale will correct the NSD map scale error. The unitglobal.csv, which governs movement, may be adjusted accordingly. BUT, The formula when corrected, really just scales the map to 1 to 1.
So, the movement rates in your Unitglobal do not necessarily have to be corrected. You may note that an infantry unit will appear to move quicker (cover more distance) this will be true. Because on the same size map in pixels you will pack in more map. Example: a 6 mile map will now fit on what was a 5 mile map with NO increase in size. AND it will be to scale, and accurate.

"Campaign movement" vs "Battlefield" movement. On the field, units tended to quicken their pace a bit. the rest normally would come when they reached positions. So, the unitglobal numbers may be now perfect to reflect this movement.

The scale myth. There is no reason this should have been this way. BUT, it must be noted that sprite and building scale cannot be true scale. You will NOT see a difference in the game at all. The there is still a correct scaling formula needed for the sprites.
