NGCM “Glorieta Pass” special event.

Be sure to join Sunday’s battle (regular time) for a special game commemorating the March 1862 battle of Glorieta Pass (New Mexico). This battle will be like a normal NGCM fight – but with a twist:

-With supply set at the Army level, each side will have a single ordnance wagon controlled by the Army commander. At launch, each Army C.O. must secretly choose an objective, TC his ordnance wagon, and send it immediately to that objective where it is to remain for the rest of the battle (within 50 yards) and cannot be moved. This represents the Army’s wagon/supply train;

-If the opposing army captures the enemy’s supply wagon, the game is immediately ended and the capturing army recorded as the winner, regardless of points or casualties;

-If neither army captures their opponent’s wagon, the battle is decided in the usual manner.

Those familiar with the actual battle of Glorieta will recall that the invading Confederates, seeking control of the Colorado gold fields via their “New Mexico Campaign”, were successfully pushing the Unionists through the Pass and seemed to be near victory at Pigeon Ranch, when Colonel Chivington’s detachment of Colorado Volunteers circled behind and destroyed the Confederate wagon train. In the barren New Mexico landscape, this amounted to a death sentence and the Rebels had no choice but to embark on a brutal retreat back to Texas.
