'True Ground SR1' - Scenarios & OOBs

This is where our experts try to teach you the very flexible modding system for our previous release - SOW Gettysburg and its add-ons. It's powerful, but dangerous. Post your tips and your questions.

Open the game and open Modifications. Make a screenshot, key F4, then close the game and open your sowgb/Work/Screenshots folder. Find and open your screenshot with a paint app and save it as a Jpg, to your Desktop, and name it. Reply here and use the attachments menu to add it so I can check it out. If you have any snags I'll explain the 'add attachments' procedure in more detail ... just ask, fans of SR1 play are special to me.

Got it thanks for all the help Reb, i was trying to play the 3 days new ground scenario so I'm gonna assume that was most likely the issue.

Hey Wolfman,
Great to hear, glad we got it figured out. In case you still have issues, or anyone else, there's an issue with the large GB map regarding a terrain feature. It occurs if you haven't purchased Antietam and don't have it enabled, otherwise CTD. The issue can be easily fixed by enabling the following file. Prioritize it above all the files in Modifications.
Download and unzip into the Mods folder:
Terrain Additions.zip
(1 MiB) Downloaded 7 times
P.S. Wolfman, I had forgotten about this until I tested further, so I missed it on your screenshot. Sorry about that, but now you have the fix.

Hey Wolfman,

Another oversight on my part. When you posted your mods priority in Modifications I missed the following:
The mod 'TC2M SOW Infantry True LOS' should not be enabled. This mod is for 'True LOS' based mods only, it adjusts the movement speed of TC2M sprites for 'True LOS' play.

Hi all,

Apologies for jumping in again; it has been a few weeks since I was last able to check in here.

A quick question regarding this mod: does "true ground" indicate that the distance/time relations in-game are the same as in real life? In other words, are only the movement speeds realistic (such that a unit would cover 100 yards in-game in the same time that it would cover 100 yards in real life), or are the distances between specific locations (such as from one end of the Union line to the other) also adjusted to match the real-life distances?

On another topic, I recently played through the Pickett's Charge scenario on the Union side, but there may be something wrong with the Confederate orders as only two battalions of a single Virginia regiment attacked (although I did see several officers ride up to and through the Union lines due to being unkillable).

Good questions. All map objects and soldier sprites are reduced to approximately 50% their original size, this doubles all distances. Once the walk speed was adjusted by testing walk times and map distances, both true distances and true movement speeds were established. Not really true, but close to what you're asking, and a lot more realistic than the stock modeling. As far as 'regiments in line' widths, nothing has been messed with except narrowing all formations also by 50%. Furthermore, line up the regimental battalions and this at least gives you an idea of how a full regiment in line formation would look like, width-wise, but probably not true ground-wise.

Regarding the Pickett's Charge scenario, I'll check it out. Can't have the Reb's pooping out. I remember this scenario well, and I think I know the issue as I pushed the limits to make it competitive ... Watch for an update.

Thanks for the report!

Update version 10.3 (August 15, 2023)

- Consolidated 'True Ground SR1 II' into 'True Ground SR1', thus eliminating the 'True Ground SR1 II' file

- Edited the scenario 'GB1-01btn_July1-AP Hill Advances (C-Corps)'
* Added 30 minutes
* Eliminated the transition to night sequence to better represent this scenario historically
* Increased objective points after some recent testing proved the bar had been set too high for a Major Victory

- Edited the scenario 'GB3-02btn_July3-The Pettigrew, Pickett, Trimble Attack (U-Corps)'
* Re-scripted the Reb attack sequence to be more competitive
* Unlocked some Union units earlier to improve gameplay
* Hopefully addressed recent feedback concerning this scenario
