More MP questions and thoughts
We've had the discussion before as to the preference of using couriers, or Ventrillo/Teamspeak in MP.
Would it make sense to schedule battles ahead of time, based on the use of either form of communication? Maybe that way we can keep the two forms of communication from giving one side or the other, an unfair advantage.
Possible idea, or bad idea?
That being said, I must admit I don't fully understand exactly how MP will work. Though I suspect that once this game is released, the MP part of it could be running 24/7 for some time.
Personaly, I would want to use couriers, but no doubt there are those who wouldn't.
The kind of MP battle I would like to fight would be with couriers, and keep the camera view "in the saddle".

I too personally would like to play MP in the saddle, courier only. That's about as realistic as it gets..
Definitely makes since and would be the best way to do it. Have courier only games, and then ventrillo games. Although how could you stop people from cheating and using ventrillo anyway for the courier only games? There's no way to prevent that, so people will just have to use the honor system and watch their opponents for signs of cheating the best they can.

I simply cannot believe that any member of the Southern officer corps would vioate the honor code! Now, however, as to the Northerners...well, that may be another story!Ephrum wrote:Definitely makes since and would be the best way to do it. Have courier only games, and then ventrillo games. MP does have the option to keep everyone in the saddle. The server, or who ever starts the game, gets to select the scenario and the options. The server will have to open a port in order for people to connect to them. This is pretty standard for mp games. Clients, or the other players, do not have to open any ports. MP will only run as the slowest system in the game, so the server has the option to turn down some of the more demanding graphic setting for all players. We may keep the player limit uncapped for the release, but that is not 100%. We have tested it with 6 players and it ran pretty good. There is going to be a point where it slows down, but until we have the testers we won't know where that is. Sometimes with a lot of players the game has shown signs of slowing, but usually turning down the graphics settings has fixed that.
Right now MP is very solid. I think there still is a bug in there somewhere, but we haven't been able to recreate it consistantly. I won't mention any names, but there is one tester machine that has the oddest bugs ever considered. Nothing makes sense from that machine and they must have a virus that is specific to making the game run oddly. Other than that, it's very fun.

You can do that, just not in the same battle. We don't have the Benedict Arnold button coded

Re:More MP questions and thoughts
My question is how many MP games am I going to get going down under in Australia an New Zealand?
Re:More MP questions and thoughts
Will there be the option to provide different players different views? For instance, could you have Divisional Commanders playing HITS while Corps commanders have more expanded views?
Maybe I'm getting ahead of myself...will there be different levels of command in mp or will all players command at the same level?
There are just too many mp questions. After playing TC2M for quite some time, I am just ridiculously excited about mp. I can't wait for you people to drive my armies off the map in a scattered, panicked mess

Re:More MP questions and thoughts
No, all players will play with the same view. Something like what you request is on the wish list. I think I'll create a tournament mode someday with a fixed set of rules so that people can compete on the same level. This would be on that list.
