Who's going to Publish this?

Post by kellysheroes »

Since it's getting close to release i'm starting to wonder about who's going to publish this one? Will there be a direct download? Please don't use Digital River as that's the worst one on the net for me. Will there be a hard copy boxed version with printed manual? I'd much prefer that if possible (then I don't care who is used for digital distribution) I don't really care about the extra cost I just like my own cd/dvd rom and printed manual.

It's been a long time since I was this anxious for a new game to arrive. I can't believe all the crap rts and fps games released over good wargames. HOI III was a bomb and worst release of all which is typical of Parapatch of course. Matrixgames hasn't released anything NEW worth buying in awhile either. This year looks like it might finally be the one for CWIF, Heroes of Stalingrad and Battles from the Bulge which I've been waiting on forever but well I won't hold my breath because I've heard those old releasing this year songs and dances before and they don't comply.

Hurry up end of March. ;)
BTW The Wargamer suks nowadays. :) They still talkin bout you Norb. Same ole fools and retards like Son of Montfort and Jarhead and most especially Gusington.

Stop putting all this pressure on me!!! I know that if we don't live up to your expectations that you're going to slam us :)

No one is publishing this game. Or we are publishing this game ourselves. The great thing about the net is that we can write a game and we can deliver a game without the net. Problem is that we cannot process payments, so we do use an arm of digital river to process the payments (SWReg)

You will be able to download the demo from anywhere, even here. You will go to the store to buy an unlock code. You can download it there too, but it will be the same game. We get a better rate if people can download it from the store because they then forcefeed the cart to include their hardcopy backup for $7. You will immediately receive an email with your unlock/activation code. You launch the demo, type in the code, and you're good to go. Very easy.

Was curious if they are charging you a fee for the payment? If so, is PayPal (or some such entity) a cheaper cost?

They charge less than anywhere online. They process payments from all over the world in all currencies using a variety of payments methods. It seems to work very well, we've been testing. Louie Raider gave it a nice look.

How they make their extra money is that when you buy the game, they immediately fill the cart with the game and the option for a backup CD that they will mail you and also an activation backup code service. So when you purchase, you have to hit the trash can to remove those items if you just want to buy the game. They are put in by default, so unless you remove them you'll be spending more money than you want. Most of these services do the same thing. So it is what I was expecting.

O'k...clear as mud! Now, if I don't want the DEMO, just the game, the procedure is the same...correct? I buy from them, but trash everything but the game so I don't pay the extra costs. (Guess this must depend on what your meaning of "is is!")

Sorry about that.

The game == demo and demo == game. The only difference is the activation/unlock code.

So no matter where you get it, filefront, here, swreg, it's the same.

When you buy the code, they will offer to mail you a CD with the "game" on it for a fee. This is not necessary. You can remove that item from your shopping cart so that there is only one item in your cart.

Hopefully more clear?

So there's no printed manual then correct? Norb? If there's no printed manual hell I can burn the exe to a dvd of my own....correct? There's no phone home verification except the one time thing ....correct? It saves you and us some money but I sure wanted a printed manual (always have always will want them) ;) I like to hold the manual and take it around with me and not have to print out a load of pages since printer ink is out of this world in price now for individuals like us.

Anyways PRESSURE PRESSURE PRESSURE END OF MARCH YOU SAID SO! hehehe

Really though I'd rather a game be delayed than to be released in the crap state HOI III was and still is and on it's 4th patch now as we speak. So, really no pressure just do the best you can and I/we are looking forward to it when it's ready. ;)

We will "probably" do a box set at some point. I cannot think past this release right now. There is no difference in burning the game to a DVD yourself or ordering the one from the site where you will purchase your activation code. Except the one you make yourself will be cheaper. We just get a much better rate when we do things this way.

There is only the one time internet activation, then nothing more. The exception being if you want to remove the activation from your current machine and move it to another.

If we do a box set, it would probably include a full color printed manual, some nice art on the DVD, I might switch the game from activation code to dvd checking, maybe some other fluff (maps?) not sure. But we would do it top notch if we do it. There is also talk about just printing the manual and selling it. The manual is being written by a few members of the team, but the highlights are that we have an experienced professional laying it out (Louie Raider), and a published author (Larry Tagg) working on the team. It would be a shame to not offer a printed manual because it's going to be sweet. But first we need to finish, then we'll hibernate for a couple of months to catch up on our sleep.
