New to Gaming...but I want IN!

Post by CheathamHill »

Greetings from a man born 170 years too late...(ya feel me right :P )

I have been interested in the concept of wargaming for many years..but my severe ADHD has caused em to lose interest 5 minutes after starting to 'learn' how to even begin the process of learning how to begin the process of learning how to play.
THIS game looks amazing and I will FORCE myself to learn this..
How steep is the learning curve from say, Super Mario Brothers to SOWG :silly: ?

Should I do myself a flavor and pick up TC2M...will it allow me to 'dive' right into SOWG when it debuts or will I be able to that anyways as long as I read the how-to phone book...

As far as realism and accuracy (which I am a HUGE proponent of) how accurate do these get..considering the numbers, etc..on most if not all previous games I've seen each individual solder represents a regiment or company at the very minimum..I know it would be next to impossible to put 45,000 soldiers on the field at once in a game, but is there accuracy in terms of soldiers, when taking a hit, staying down and remaining on the field to be viewed (this adds to the realism in my opinion)..or would I be better off sticking with a first person shooter...

I'm sure I'll have thousands of more questions as I go along...
Looking forward to 'axing' them!

Cheers pards!

CH,

Welcome aboard. :cheer: TC2M has a solid learning curve. Gettysburg promises to be even more intense, especially with MP added. The Tutorials are a must. Don't just dive in or you will get your ass waxed. The AI is arguably the finest RTS one out there. If you have issues with paying attention, good luck. The AI, even on "Normal," can still catch you by surprise. Sometimes it's somewhat blundering, sometimes your butt can be flanked and rolled up before you have any idea whats going on. I have been playing this game forever and still lose once in a while. Don't be afraid to ask questions. Plenty of us here to answer them for you. We've all been there (LOL!). Also, check out the madminutegames.com website. Lots of good people and good intel over there. Be prepared to fight well. There is no compromise with these games.

On the bberry so I'll keep it brief and get back to my real job haha

I have a gateway m series laptop that I got in 07 with vista just to 'putz' around with..
Wasn't sure it would work on this 'machine' but I downloaded the demo of tcm2...and I'm HOOKED already! Is it safe to say the full version will run as well on vista if the demo does?

And note to self..being agressive as gibbons in the demo battle is not necessarily the right choice :(

Looking forward to more campfire banter with my new pards on here!

There has been some discussion as to how to run TC2M with Vista (boo-hiss). Some folks have loaded it in just fine. Others have to run it on the "Administrator" side. I'm still running XP so I'm good to go.

It will run under Vista just fine, I have done all of my development work in Vista. I will be upgrading to Win7 64 bit after release though. If your system will handle Win7, it is widely reported to be a significant improvement from Vista.

Just replayed with a bit more patience....I actually 'won'the gibbons 'stage' defending the farm with a score of 712.2

Is that good, average, bad?

Am I done with the demo...?

Guess its time for the full game purchase
