Great, just great. Figured it wouldn't be out til the 30th, so wasted a whole weekend interacting with the kids and the wife. Now I log on and it's been out for TWO DAYS! TWO DAYS I'LL NEVER GET BACK AGAIN!!!!

Got the activation code, am about 50% downloaded...something tells me I'm going to be grouchy at work tomorrow....

Graphics look fantastic but sound seems unbalanced --background seeems all loud marching feet drowns all else --orders, music, gunfire etc.
Also is there a quick way to remind you if you have "taken command" of a unit or not. Could not discern any colour difference in flag.
But looks excellent and really promising piece of work --many thanks to all.

The "Take Command" button in the Button Rock turns from brown to yellow.

Wow. So, this is finally out.

I'm deeply impressed by the combat model that you've developed. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems like units are finally deciding for themselves when they're not winning a battle and backing off without being destroyed instead of standing in place and exchanging fire until one side or the other is too crushed to continue. It's taken a long time, but there's finally realtime wargame that creates that historical sense of attack and recoil, and I suspect it will lead to more realistic casualty figures. I'll have to wait until I buy the full release to find out though.

I'm disappointed that there aren't many interface improvements, though. Unless I missed something, you still have to *clickclickclickclickclick* just to pick the direction of a unit, nearly every single time you move the unit. What's wrong with the click-and-drag-to-pick-direction that became standard in tactical RTS games ages ago? The new maneuvering commands are a nice touch though.

Graphically, it feels rougher than the last two games for some reason that I can't quite put my finger on. There's more stuff on the maps, but it doesn't seem to fit together as well artistically, looking a lot more desaturated and rough around the edges instead of lush and green. The sprites also seem a lot fuzzier, even on the highest settings. This is a wargame, though - I didn't come here for the graphics.

Overall, my feeling is that this is a Civil War grognard's dream.

edit: Also, I like how ammo is represented per man now and easily visible. That's a nice touch.
