The future of MMG ???

Post by garyknowz »

It’s fantastic to see the project up and rolling again. I was worried for a bit. It would indeed be a shame is a concept and implementation as good as the TC series died on the vine without seeing its enormous potential fulfilled.

Anyhow, I might have missed it, but what does this mean for the future of MMG? Are you still working with Adam (and how’s he doing btw) or are you branching on your own and the new engine will be a completely separate project? Thanks!

Cheers!
Gary K.

Hey Gary,

Welcome over to the dark side (literaly). I am still half of MMG, so is Adam. Right now I'm focused on the NSD project, and no, he is not part of this team. Though it does contain people that I've worked with in the past on the MMG games.

I have always been more focused on the War3D engine, then the content. That's my baby. NSD is creating the next gen of that engine. With MULTIPLAYER!!!! Any future MMG games would have to use the same engine, or some derivation of it. I can only support one at a time.

So, I'm creating War3D II. NSD is creating the next game using War3D II. After that I'm not so sure. I can only focus on one thing at a time.

Would you believe that the other night I was finally ready to test MP over the net and no one on my team in the US was answering their phone? Now I'm back in dev, but they sure did miss out :(

We usually only write updates about our projects. You'll have to ask individuals if you want to know about individuals.

I'm sorry to be short, I guess that I get that question a lot and I don't know how to answer. I choose to stay involved and support the community. I continue to run MMG and support it's games. It takes a significant amount of time to run two independent companies. But I made a commitment to the community and I'm not one to abandon what I shared in creating. I've met a ton of great people and those people have allowed this engine to become successful. I want to continue down that path and reward those that helped me get here. I cannot speak for other people though and why they make the choices that they do. I'm not going to assume that I know what's behind people's choices, I can only answer why I do what I do. I have guesses, but my guesses are not fact and therefore are not worthy to be written. That is why I have been asking people to please direct questions to the people that have the answers. That way no one get's a wrong impression. I hope that this is a better answer.

I'm just here to make games. I enjoy doing it. I have always coded in my free time and this engine is a labor of love. I have rewritten it many times and will continue to do so until it's the best there is. There are so many features that I want to add to it and as long as people still want it, I'll work on getting all those features in. A great team of people have come to work on it with me. We are having a great time and we all work well together. I want to make sure this game ships for them. Both times MMG shipped games, only two people were rewarded, even though many people contributed. This time things will be different. This has been my goal behind this entire effort. I want to reward everyone that helps make the game. Yes, it's taking much longer than I planned, but that is just the way independent gaming works. People come and go, until you are left with the core people that share the vision. It's a huge sacrifice of time to do something like this. Not just for the developers, but for their families too. You also have to learn how to be a team, how to get along and work together. It's a long process, but hopefully in the end you are left with a great team that can put out many games. The first one is the hardest. The other's are hard, but not as hard as the first.

So give us some time, give this team a chance. You have played their mods, now you will get a chance to play their game. They have spent countless hours trying to force the game engine to do what they want. Now they get a chance to have the coding support behind their efforts. Only the finished product will be able to show their efforts. They only need a chance and that is what I can provide.

Go get 'em Norb!! I respect the hell out of what you've done and what you are attempting to do. I sit here at work on my normal day off wondering how the hell I ever got to this point in a really lousy job. I've always been too afraid to follow my dreams and take a chance. On my death-bed I'll regret that fact to no end.
You've taken that chance and put out one heck of a game with MMG. I'm sure that you and the NSD team will put out another winner. My credit card is in hand waiting for the preorder announcement.

If that was the case youd be in Bermuda by now. ;)

Norb, sentiments such as these are what transform a job into a craft. There is too few of it around anymore.

Don't forget though, masterpieces are worth infinitely more than prints; those of us who can appreciate the difference between a van Gogh and a BillyBob will gladly pay whatever you feel this masterpiece is worth.

Best,
Gary

Thanks guys, I really appreciate that you support this new effort. I wish that everyone that has helped along the way could be here, but that's how things work. Jim & myself are the only ones that have stuck through since the beginning. This engine has a lot of a lot of people in it. Countless hours by dedicated testers working through the game.
