HISTORICAL SETTING

Post by bafonetto »

I played some scenes with the automatic settings HISTORICAL.
I really liked but I would ask a few questions:
When you send a messenger to order the units under our command does not appear WAYPOINT this causes a great waste of time to establish the correct position to indicate the units to move ... you can include this (bug / oversight) in a future patch?

The other thing that I think needs to be changed on the historical setting would be a marker on the map when you get the move to or attack at this position on the map. Then when you look at the map it is still blank.

Some of the sub-settings are overimposed. If you select 100 yds visibility and THEN you select the historical settings, it will stay on 100 but you will have 0 visibility. This is too close however, so close you can't select your general's flag.

I know, all the auxiliary view helps are disabled, the map is completely blank, when you give orders to someone you have no idea of where you clicked, nor can you further tweak the facing and ... to the top of it, since you can't move the camera, unless the point you want to order to is in plain sight, you really can't give the order at all... you must go there personally to be able to click for someone else to get there.

Pretty frustrating, but I'm sure these things will be worked on soon enough. :)

is the only way to be able to play using a strategy. really is HISTORICAL too.
I think this option is the best game (but a little help ..)

In all cases the friendly units within range of the camera should also be seen on the map ...

You could use the "Go to Me" button.

I know dukes, or I can select someone else and then jump up to myself through the UP cursor key. The problem is that there's no unit to be seen on the minimap at this setting but even if there was, while you normally can jump and see it at other difficulty settings, you can't do that at historical setting because your visibility is restricted.

This means, in my case for example, that I am forced to go to the minimap and look at the name of a unit, eventually remove the foliage to see its flag so I can click on it and then send the order via courier. We need to be able to select the unit from the minimap at all difficulty settings.

Utilizing the "report status" with the courier system I think the strategic map should show friendly and enemy units. The icons could have a time stamp showing when that unit was reported that would display when you hovered the cursor over it on the map. I think the level of info provided on the "historical" setting is not really historical. If anyone has ever played any of the games from Panther Games such as Highway to the Reich or Conquest of the Aegean they have a great system in this situation. Enemy units spotted stay on the map for a period of time and you can see how long it was since that unit was first seen. Its deeper then that but hopefully y'all know what I mean. I do like the way SOW has the courier function though with all the different options to select from. I guess I could print out the scenario map and mark it as reports come in...That WOULD be historical :) Or conscript my wife to do it because all great generals have a command staff :)

Are scenario maps printable?

All the maps are in the base/maps folder, they are .dds files and can be opened and printed. I use photoshop with an nvidia plugin.
