Sound and Building Bug?

Game won't run. Keeps crashing. Hopefully we won't get any posts here, but if we do, we'll try to help you out. You can also post any bugs that you find here. IMPORTANT: Don't post mod related problems here!

Sound and Building Bug?

Post by charlesobscure »

Downloaded the new DX yesterday and got the sound to work. However, I downloaded the mod and soon noticed that the buildings weren't there, or they had become transparent for some reason. The sound was working fine when I played the mod for the first time. I checked the options and confirmed that I had the Objects setting on "High." When I turned it up to "Best," the sound went back to being what it was pre-DX but the buildings appeared. I turned the Objects back to "High" and found that the buildings went away again and the sound remained in its muffled state. Any ideas?

Hi Charles, I tried altering my settings to high just too see if I got the same effects as you did, I didnt, not sure what can be causing this problem.

Have you tried setting everything to best, come out of the game then go back in to it?

I have been tampering a lot with settings for tests too but I haven't noticed this change either. I guess this issue only relates to some soundcards then.

I have been messing around with the settings (I really wanted to have uniforms set on "Best" but alas, my computer can't handle it). I don't know why setting the buildings to "High" immediately resulted in my sound going away. I'm not going to say that that change caused the sound issue but I really did not do anything else before the sound disappeared.

This is one of the issues when making PC games, there are just so many different configurations!

It will be hard to track this down unless we can somehow recreate the issue on one of our test machines, but it seems to be a straight memory issue.

Meaning I don't have enough memory to cope with the game's requirements?

Not at full settings. Like most game developers, and even as I did on tc2m, we code a little ahead of current specs.

We allow all those settings so that you can find something that works for you. So if you have found a configuration that works, that is what you should stick with. It's hard to say exactly what is going on, but that's my best guess. Putting buildings on high does use a lot more memory, as there are a lot of 3D objects on the maps.

But why would the buildings disappear when I lowered the settings and what happened with the sound?

Hi.

Just a thought.

To free up more memory for me, I went to my Bios, and lowered my video appeture (UMA)setting from 512 to 128.

I know, it's not much, but it does work for some games out there.

There are things you can do like shutting down some services, but that isn't something I want to get into. Better to ask someone more tech savvy than myself.

Later!
