Looking forward to the game but DRM kill it all !!
Re:Looking forward to the game but DRM kill it all !!
Thanks for the quick response
If it is confirm officially I can reactivate the game even though I have fail deactivate the game due to some unforeseen reason , then I will be more than happy to get the game
I am not sure why , but I do have a lot of crashes and need to reformat lately and almost lost one of the game Strategic Command Series from www.battlefront.com which practice the same DRM , luckily we were issued 2 license for it
Having saying that , it really will be perfect if the serial number system is been used here , I just need to download and burn to a CD with the serial number , keep it at a safe place , no worries at all , knowing that I can still install the game even ten years from now

A bit on the DRM vs piracy
Well I know about this , we , wargamers are special breed of gamers ,we tend to be very supportive of developers , we are concern if they (developers) do not make enough sales , we will not get any more quality wargames to play anymore B)
One example is Matrix Games , they never ever practice DRM except serial number (which keep their customers very happy) and yet the business is growing B) B)

Norb, Can I suggest you post info on DRM as a sticky so new visitors can see these questions have already been answered? Just a thought, might help.

I've written an FAQ and I've got some stickies up there. I'm not sure what else can be done. It's no big deal answering the questions. People are nervous about DRM because there are some crazy schemes out there. I will not buy a game that checks my registration every time I play. I have no problem registering one time.
Matrix can take the risk, we can't. We have one game, that's it. We need to hold off the hacking as long as possible. Everyone can argue both sides of DRM. For the most part, ours is working great. There are some issues and you can read these boards and find them, but most people install, activate, and then never have any issues.
Actually, unless you have to reformat the hard drive, a crash should not cause a problem.

First of all , I will like to say sorry for not searching the forum for DRM issue , my bad
Reformatting hard disk is my main worry , I did have to reformat and reinstall everything lately and I believe that will cause my "game to be lost "
I truly enjoy the demo and want to say " wow" for produce such a fine game
However , due to my recent bad experience with DRM , I have to pass up this one
Maybe one day when you decide to change the system , I will be the first to line up to buy the game
Finally I wish all the best to your company and thanks again for answering my question so quickly

It's going to be a matter of time before 10 more players post about their concerns on DRM in 10 separate threads. We will keep having threads like these until the answers we already know are stickied on their own thread.
It would be better if Norb focused on coding rather than on being on the forums... and it would be 100 times better if he didn't have to answer the same question again and again and again and again...
Please sticky the DRM whereabouts to reassure everyone and just answer to the concerns of newcomers by pointing them to the link of the sticky on DRM.

I would rather have someone post their concern/interest, be it DRM or whatever, instead of not doing anything and just move on.

I just think it's crazy to just hate all DRM. It's like hating every game because one crashes. Every scheme is different, they are all coded differently. I can understand saying, I hate securom. That makes some sense. But to just hate an application developer trying to protect something they worked on for years, does not make any sense to me. I think that each type has to be examined and studied for it's worth and see if you can live with it.
Fact is that it does not matter how we protected the game. No matter what we chose someone would have complained. Even when we did CD protection, people were worried about scratched disks. And I had to go on and argue that every console game uses a disk, what's wrong with a PC game using one. All we can do is state the reasons for our decision and let people decide. Maybe if we get a CD version some day, we can make more people happy, but they are going to miss out on a lot until then!

I'm always interested if in anyone has any new arguments to debate. But it's always the same ones and I believe that we have compelling answers to all those concerns. At least he was nice enough to come and discuss it. Some of those that post will be convinced, some won't and will just have to look at the screenshots instead of putting on Lee's boots and taking on the Federals every night!I would rather have someone post their concern/interest, be it DRM or whatever, instead of not doing anything and just move on.

I'm assuming your bad experience caused you to lose a code or a game? If so; remember that your code will always be safe. We'll help you through any technical issues you could possibly encounter with our DRM.
