Need help for getting better frame rates.

Post by Michael Slaunwhite »

Hi.

I was looking through the SOWGB.ini, and I was wondering what would be the proper value so I can get better frame rates?

[Initialization]
Full Screen=1
Screen Res=0
AntiA=2 (would I change this to 0 to turn this off)
Anso=4 (Would I change this to 0 as well)?
MapPort=0

I've noticed since I patched the game to the latest patch, I have seen my frame rates drop.

bye.

The latest patch actually should have increased frame rates, at least for the scenario's. It should not have decreased the performance in any way.

You will want to run on full screen for best performance.

Sreen Res=1024x768

Anti alias and Anso shouldn't effect performance, but you can try turning to to zero to see if it helps.

MapPort shouldn't matter.

Just to note: trees are the big killer. I usually run mine on 30 or less. Also draw distance. Scale back objects, trees, and units to 800 or less.

Also set uniforms to medium. You will get the full uniform look, but it will be low res. If you still need an extra frame or two, bump them down to low.

I didn't know this.

Does this mean that..?
"best" = hi-res varied uniforms
"high" = hi-res generic uniforms
"medium" = low-res varied uniforms
"low" = low-res generic uniforms

Or am I hoping too much? (At work, can't test.)

Greetings mikesla.

Disabling them by editing the sowgb.ini won't really do much. Just change the settings in your options menu (video,distance,quality), and I'm sure you'll see better frame rates. What difficulty are you playing the game? The higher the difficulty, the more cpu is going to be used which will affect your frame rates as well.

Good Luck.

I have been trying some different options also.

So far, no slowdowns with the following changes :

%Showing Trees from 100% -- > 85%
Display Off Map Trees -- > uncheck mark

By dropping the above 2 options, I was able to increase these :

Max # Artillary Hit Decals from 20 -- > 50
Max Terrain Draw Distance from High -- > Best
Max Units Draw Distance from 1000 -- > 1100
Max Objects Draw Distance from 1000 -- > 1100

I still plan on some more tweaking, like LP mentioned about the Tree Distance some more and see the results.

Thanks Chamberlain.

I tried your suggestions, and I'm getting better frame rates.

Bye.

Hi mikesla ,

Glad to hear that it has helped. :)

I am going to try and lower the % Showing Trees from 85 % down to around 50 %, maybe increase some other options and see how it goes. Then raise the trees % up from 50 and continue testing it out.
