3D soldier models

Post by BoJe »

Hm, my first attempt to start new thread failed, so I'll give it one more try...

What are the chances of seeing 3D soldier models in this game?
Would it be impossible with so many men on the battlefield or are there some other reasons for sticking with 2D sprites?

Hope this one goes through...

It is very possible and the direction that we are shooting for in the future. In my first rewrite of the War3DII engine we actually did have models working in there. But as we went on and had to switch 3D engines and went back to sprites. It just became too much to completely rewrite the engine and add that new feature. So look for them in future releases, but not this one. Right now we are trying to catch back up to where we left off and make it better, with multiplayer. Once we have the base working again and out there, then we can focus on some of this fun stuff like models.

What do you mean by 3D sprites, they have width, height and depth, don't they?

Actually they just have a location and spacing, but 3D models would be the same. When you have this many people on the battlefield, it's not possible to do that type of collision checking.

Sounds like a good plan to me!
It will be exciting to see what the future holds.
