Any intention of a USCT mod?

This is where our experts try to teach you the very flexible modding system for our previous release - SOW Gettysburg and its add-ons. It's powerful, but dangerous. Post your tips and your questions.

Any intention of a USCT mod?

Post by Son of an Irish Noble »

I've always loved the stories of colored regiments in the war, and this is a little after the north began accepting black soldiers into its volunteer armies (New Orleans fielded a black militia regiment from the beginning of the war, first for the south and then for the north. All black officers). I'd really love to see a sprite and flag mod for black regiments, both contraband and USCT, once map and OOB modding takes off with this title.

Hi Son of an Irish Noble,

I am not sure black troops were employed at Gettysburg, regardless of that, such mod would be great and if we consider the abilities of our scenario makers nothing prevents them to fit these troops in historical battles in any theater they were employed. :)

There were no black soldiers at gettysburg. I was thinking once we start branching to other OOB's and new maps, it would be a great sprite mod

The evidence is clear that there were a very few individual black soldiers at Gettysburg. There were no USCT or other black regiments at Gettysburg or in the campaign.

Which I just said? This would be a modification to the existing game, not necessarily keeping with the original setting. I don't think there were British and French soldiers at Gettysburg either but there's a Napoleonic mod in the works. This game isn't going to stay in just Gettysburg and that campaign forever, just like TC2M eventually included maps, sprites, and OOB's from every front and era of the war, and even other wars.

As I said, once modders get underway with this game and start looking at other battles and theatres, I'd like to see them include the USCT this time. They contributed to several key late war battles in both the east and the west, and I think they often get overlooked by history and their contributions overshadowed by better known, longer serving units.

That's the clearest way I know how to put it.
