SOWGB Beta Patch 3

Game won't run. Keeps crashing. Hopefully we won't get any posts here, but if we do, we'll try to help you out. You can also post any bugs that you find here. IMPORTANT: Don't post mod related problems here!

just installed beta 3 and played Blood in the Run scenario. Got a CTD after reading a courier message (about a commander being killed) and clicking it away.

Also the sound is worse for me in b3. Whenever I scroll or zoom the volume increases perhaps 100% while I am actually scrolling or zooming (eg mouse wheel zooming), then reverts to normal volume the instant I stop scrolling or zooming. Pretty much a major regression for me.

thanks for your hard efforts.

thx Chris

Awesome results so far !!!!!! No CTd's and my sound problems are finally gone.Have been playing sandbox battles for the last 4 hours without the slightest issue. Major improvements for me all across the board.

Thank you everyone, we're looking into the CTD's. No idea why they are happening, as we would not have released had we seen them. But we'll get them fixed.

Good morning,

Downloaded and installed...now, is there some simple way to determine if I did it correctly...as in TC2M "CMP" on the screen?

Thanks

I THINK I know what's causing this and I don't know why we missed it. I think that most of the focus of our testing was MP and we usually don't test with couriers too much. It's a mix of couriers with the new sound code that is causing the CTD, I think. We will build internal this evening and then test tonight and get it out if it fixes the issue.

I tried to find a common thread to all the crashes I was having last night. I decided to just use Blood In The Run as a test platform. What I found was that 2 CTDs occurred when I received a courier message. Two occured when the AI commander received a message. Another 6 or 7 happened for no apparent reason. It might be that there were courier meesages being delivered to other AI commanders out of my field of view. However, the game does not always crash when messages are received. I actually played Blood In The Run twice to completion. Also the saved games are no help. When I restart from the last save game, the game would never crash at the same place again, if at all.

There were also long pauses, (~0.2-0.5 sec), in the game just before a crash. I have never seen pauses like this before. At times, these pauses will occur, but with no subsequent crash. But the pauses do seem to show up at approximately the same time in each game, crash or not.

Hopefully, this info will help rather than hinder.
I can make this march and I will make Georgia howl.

No, this is great, this info supports my theory. Gotta work to pay the mortgage during the day, but come 5:30 I'll start working on the game code. Then we have an mp test tonight and we'll see how it worked.

Norb/Team,

Okay. Had to reinstall Norton Anti-Virus to get that fixed. No problem. Only took ten minutes or so.
Ran an SP game last night, before the re-install, using my modded 2nd. Day OOB 6th. Corps in Corps vs. Corps. Crashed at about 20 minutes. Used 6th. Corps because that has been the Corps engaged when the crashes occured.
Ran the same OOB w/ 6th. Corps just now, after the re-install. Worked fine all the way thru to the finish, roughly 35 minutes.
So, it appears the patch is okay and it is not the modding I'm doing. The combat sounds seem to be there all the time. Apologies for not noticing if the bugle calls were there or not.

Now, if the other half would stop texting me all day about trivia, maybe I can get in an MP game.

I think the issue does not come up all the time. But I'm pretty sure it's there.

Norb/Team,

Okay, spoke to soon. Missed the MP game so went to SP sandbox game. Modded 6th. Corps OOB like this morning. Great fighting. Game ran thru, Rebs took and held objective to win. Returned to game. At the point of crash, I was preparing to move the 4th. Vermont to my right flank to forstall a Reb advance. TC'd the unit. Clicked on "Column" to get ready to move and crash.
I am saddened to think it is something with the 6th. Corps modding. They have become my favorite Yankees. Will try a different game this afternoon with a different Corps and see what happens.
