Alternate and Maximum Toolbars

This is where our experts try to teach you the very flexible modding system for our previous release - SOW Gettysburg and its add-ons. It's powerful, but dangerous. Post your tips and your questions.

Alternate and Maximum Toolbars

Post by Wolfe_CH »

[Edit] Summary:
* Alternate Toolbar v.1.3 - compatible with SoW 1.0-1.103.
* Alternate Toolbar v.1.4 - compatible with SoW 1.2-1.4.

* Maximum Toolbar v.1.0 - compatible with SoW 1.0-1.103.
* Maximum Toolbar v.1.1 - compatible with SoW 1.2-1.4.
[/Edit]

.
.

This mod significantly alters the layout of the SoW toolbar. It is INCOMPATIBLE with other mods that alter the toolbar.

* The toolbar has been "flattened"; the groupings have been removed so that all buttons are visible at all times.

* Some keyboard commands have been "buttonized": TC (1 and 2), and Move to Cover (8).

* Added Walk command to Brigade and Division-level commanders.

Excellent, very professional.

However, for the obvious reasons that it will kill my concepts, DRF, and updated bugle calls, I can't use it. But it is certainly useful for gathering information on what can be done. And those buttons, wow, much better than my freebee graphic program can handle, or, my ignorance in applying such.

Regardless, very nice work, great ideas. B)

Thanks! The buttons were done with the freeware Gimp; I have no artistic talent, so ended up doing them pixel by pixel with lots of cut-and-paste. :) They're one solid color; no artistic shading or variation.

I'm not sure how the game decides which Mod to use when there's more than one option. I guess the last installed takes precedence; it certainly isn't alphabetical.

Small updates.

Version 1.1:
* Lightened blue button highlight.
* Changed objective text from medium red (sometimes hard to see) to a gold color in Guitext.csv. Original line remains, but is comma-ed out.
* Slightly edited Rebel background flag in Toolbar.dds.
* Added RebBugler's buttons to Buttons.dds.

I don’t quite understand what I am seeing.

You say that you have included Reb Bugler’s buttons from Flags and Bugles in this latest tweak. Should they now appear on your most excellent toolbar ? “Advance 300 yds” “Attack March” etc.

I don’t see them. I have the mod installed OK as the colour change on the objective text is there.

I tried running without Flags and Bugles included but still no luck. Am I misunderstanding your intention ?

No, what I meant was that I incorporated RebBugler's graphical buttons into the Buttons.dds file in case RebBugler or anyone else wanted to use that buttons-style in their own Mod.

I don't have those particular functions on my Alternate toolbar because there isn't enough room without really crowding things, unfortunately.

Sorry for any misunderstanding.

Thanks.

I must admit I was wondering just how you were going to squeeze the additional buttons in. What you did was a miracle of design as it was.

I wasn't very keen on the three separate button groupings. How many times have I mistakenly hit 'retreat" when I meant 'defend to the the death" which lives in the same position on the other grouping.

Glad you like it!

Version 1.2 crosses some I's and dots some T's (or something like that). The update doesn't affect the functionality of the mod.

Hi, looks interesting.
what does the red down-arrow do on brig and reg level?
The red up-arrow is advance to cover 300, right?
