Another MP hosting problem
Another MP hosting problem
Hi All
I have noticed alot of similar posts, and have tried all of the fixes in them.
I downloaded the demo yesterday, spent the night and most of today lurking waiting for someone to come into the lobby who would deactivate their full version and let me try and play demo against them (found one in the end, Talon, I salute you) but had no luck. I allowed the programme through my firewall, but again, no luck.
I then set up the port forwarding (I had not tried that yet, because as I didnt want to host I was happy just to join games) and according to portchecker the port is open for UDP protocol. This sort-of worked, I can host a game, and even start it, but noone can join me.
One important thing i found, is the 'map port' option in options was causing me trouble if left checked after opening the port, so now i uncheck it.
I then tried disabling my firewall, and my AV, and then hosting. No luck. I was able to join a game, and had a blast, so am hoping to get this sorted soon. I have since had problems joining other games.
So to reiterate,
-I have my port open
-My firewall is set to allow SOW through, but just to play it safe I deactivated it,
-I deactivated my AV too but I still can't host.
-I turned 'map port' off, not set to 0 in the conf.ini file ive seen mentioned.
Any suggestions would be great, really like the game. Ive played plenty of TCM2M, but MP has me hooked.

Con,
1st. - Welcome to the community. You are truly screwed now.
2nd. - His Chamberlain-ness is right. You'll need to install the latest patch. It is in the Tech and bug section.
3rd. - If that doesn't work, (and it should), you'll need to actually add "mapport=0" to the SOWGB.ini initialization file. There is a thread here somewhere about how to do it. It's not a big deal to do, just annoying.
Good luck!

Maybe the answer is in this link, try this from the above Thread (How to Play Multiplayer--the Manual ) from larrytagg:
- Thanks Larry !
"Mapping a Router Port
If you would like to Host a Multiplayer game and you got an Error message when you tried to Host a game as described in “How to Host a Multiplayer Game” above, you will have to learn how to map a port from your router. This only has to be done once.
There are many makes and models of routers. Therefore, we cannot give specific directions on how to do this in all circumstances and combinations. However, the following is a routine that will work for most PCs.
First, you need to assign yourself a Static IP Address. To do this, you must first look on your router to find its manufacturer and model number. Then go to the website portforward.com/
Click on the manufacturer and model number of your router.
When you click on your router’s manufacturer and model number, a new page will pop up. On this page, click on “Default Guide,” in the text.
When you click on “Default Guide,” a new page will pop up. On this page, click on “Static IP Address” in the text.
When you click on “Static IP Address,” a new page will pop up, titled “How to Set Up a Static IP Address.” On this page, click on the sentence which reads, “Setup a Static IP address on ...” ending with the Operating System your computer uses.
When you click on your Operating System, a new page will pop up. After a short discussion of “Dynamic” vs. “Static” IPs, a set of instructions will appear. It will be helpful to print out this set of instructions so that you may refer to it as you set up your Static IP.
When you finish this easy set of instructions, you will have given your computer a Static IP Address.
The specific port to be opened is “31791”.
The protocol to be typed is “udp”.
Now that you have assigned yourself a Static IP Address and made exceptions in your Firewall (see “How to Host a Multiplayer Game” above), you will be able to Host a game from the Lobby. If you have also ascertained your External IP Address (see “Connect Directly to an IP Address” under “How to Host a Multiplayer” above), you will also be able to Host a game from the “Connect Directly to an IP Address” pathway.

Re:Another MP hosting problem
Did you get the portforward.com application and verify that the port is accessible from the internet?
Re:Another MP hosting problem
Hi Guys,
As I mentioned in my first post, I have already got a static IP, gone through the steps for opening the port and used the port checker (portforward) program to confirm its open for UDP protocol. It is.
I just had a game online there, but i still cant host, nor could one of the other people although he has been able to in the past.

Re:Another MP hosting problem
Sorry, just checking. Have you tried direct connect? Or have you been using the lobby?
Re:Another MP hosting problem
Hi Norb,
As far as Im aware, someone tried direct connection as well. I certainly asked them to, and gave them my IP. No luck.
And a random question, why does the colon key not work in the lobby, it makes smilies just that.
