Gettysburg is a great battlefield and hard to match. It's a little far to get to without taking a vacation.
Around here we have a few battlefields and I took a one day trip to Pea Ridge Battle field. I'm going to attempt to post some pics. It is in great shape and was a major battle that had major consequences for the loser.
Having a little trouble with the pics. Will update later

The best method of posting pictures is to upload them to a picture website like Photobucket. Once you have them uploaded, you can copy the URL's below the picture, come back here, and click Img. That gives you the option to paste the URL and you can insert the pictures.Gettysburg is a great battlefield and hard to match. It's a little far to get to without taking a vacation.

Under the picture in Photobucket, there are 4 lines, copy the last line, begins with img, paste it here in your Reply. Picture will then show up properly here for viewing.

This is the tree line that McCulloch was deploying his battle line and where he was killed.

Re:Pea Ridge

This is the tree line the yanks were defending from. This position is in the rear of their original line.

This is Elk Horn Tavern. Prices' Missourians captured this on day 1. With this position captured Van Dorn thought he had the battle won.

This is an elevated position west of the Elk Horn Tavern also captured by the rebels. McCulloch's leaderless command is in the distance to the right. On the morning of day 2 the Union has assembled in the fields below behind 21 cannons. After a 2 hour bombardment 10,000 Union troops advance towards this position and Elk Horn Tavern.

The same fields to the right directly in front of Elk Horn Tavern.
After 2 days of hard marching and 1 day of hard fighting and very short of ammunition the hungry rebels fell back before the Yank infantry. Van Dorn had left his supply wagons far in the rear.

Re:Pea Ridge

This is the correct pic to the left.

The iron horse I rode that day.
The battle field is in good shape and well worth the visit.
