Here you can talk about whatever floats your boat. Your favorite movie, sports team, etc. If it's a little racey, I suggest you post in R&R, otherwise we'll move it for you.
Yeah! John Runyan, a very smart and good guy got elected to Congress in southern NJ. He can't do any worse than the rest of the monkeys down there. In fact I think he will do better. I've been listening to him for years and he's very well spoken, a real man of the people. But only time will tell of protecting DMac translates into protecting the US.
Now I just need to find one of his campaign signs for my collection
Someone who made a career of colliding with other behemoths is fit to lead? Lead what exactly? The simple fact that someone of that ilk is actually elected to anything speaks volumes as to why this country is in its current state.
I can make this march and I will make Georgia howl.
No, honestly, if he was a dope then I would be right with you. But I've been listening to him for years. He's done radio shows pretty regularly. He's a businessman and has always conducted himself very well. Besides, the concept of Rep. is supposed to be a regular guy taking 2 years to serve the government and then get back to their real life. Not a professional politician, they aren't supposed to spend millions running every 2 years.
I only know what I've heard from him and I like him. But as I said, only time will tell if he does the job to his district's satisfaction. I think the Dem lost it more than Runyan won it though. His campaign sponsored a fake Tea Party Candidate to try and split the Repub vote and they got caught, or something like that. Not my district.
To me there's nothing wrong with a former football player becoming a congressman. The ruling class career politicians are usually the most corrupt. But then if you have someone too down to earth; (someone you could have a beer with like W) then you have people calling them stupid and incompetent... So what exactly is the ideal politician.. do they even exist?
By those standards our founding fathers (vertually all intellectuals) wouldn't stand a chance in todays climate...... doubt if they'd vote for a barmaid either. The first thing Stalin did was whipe out the intellectuals btw.
Today our hero's are uneducated multi millionare snake oil salesman/entertainers who say "...but don't take my word for it, read for yourself..." then hand you what your supposed to believe. Intellectually lazy people let others think for them...... not good for a democracy/republic.
No one ever went poor in America by selling fear. Wasn't it Himmler who said "its easy to control people, you just get them to fear"...... then they'll believe any whacko nonsense.
And once they fear then its a short hop to hate. Hey, it worked for Hitler.
Americans should never make decisions based on fear.....only fact.
Doesn't anyone read factcheck.org anyway?
.... and if you think intellectuals don't get their hands dirty, here's some thoughts from a longshoreman:
Absolute faith corrupts as absolutely as absolute power.
Rudeness is the weak man's imitation of strength.
It is when power is wedded to chronic fear that it becomes formidable.

But the problem that I have with those that consider themselves "intellectuals" is that they are elitist. They cannot fathom a world where a Pro Bowl NFL Right Tackle just might be as smart as them and an intellectual themselves. They will immediately classify him as not in their elite group and start at it without ever giving him a chance.
I think having a good head on your shoulders is important, but it's not the only requirement for being able to handle the job. There is no way that someone could be assumed to be able to govern simply by their GPA. There are a lot of really stupid smart guys, so to simply classify someone without ever seeing them perform, is depriving the US of some great leaders.
Of course the intellectuals would consider it a threat and beneath them for someone to enter their group that did not meet their qualifications. I believe that's how the good ole boys club got started. Rather than view it as giving someone new a chance, it will be viewed as a threat to their beliefs that only the intellectually elite can possibly rule the world.
