It's hire the handycapped.
We so love the shallow, narrow minded and uneducated.:P
..... and those who live a rich fantasy life.
.... and why are people threatened by that word? When someone assumes they are all snobs it makes me suspect they are listening to people who like to make up their own "facts".
There, I had your quotes answer your own questions :)

Follow the money.

The new heads of the House are all old white guys (like me!) with deep ties to Industry (not like me) and will chair committees to oversee them...... and corporatocracy goes on.
IOW,"Giving the keys back to the guys who wrecked the car".

"Angry voters choose gridlock" ..... or, never make decisions out of anger.

Do you honestly believe corporations have American interests at heart? ..... most of them are multinationals.

From what you say you seem to not believe in global warming. Again, this leads me to believe you are a follower of the multi millionare Wall Street spokesman on Fox.... who choose to ignore the fact that vertually ALL climatologists say the globe is in serious trouble. ....and use the heavy snowfall of last winter (a sign of global warming btw) as a moronic sign that global warming is a hoax.

Again, if you want information go to the right specialist.

.....and if you want to follow corruption, follow the money.

The irony here is that most of the "government stifles initiative" sentiment is spoken by people who have benifited by free or subsidized higher education or out and out gotten free government higher enucation and will more than likely participate in Social Security and Medicare and other "socialistic" tools.

I don't believe in government intervention in most things, but there is a need from time to time for government support on certain things and I don't think making grand sweaping statements about the evils of government without ballancing that against the evils of big business (or businesses takover of government) is very productive.

Extremes are seldome correct.

Reagan was a very popular president because his policies got Americans back to work, inflation came under control, and everyone regained their pride in this country. To get his bills passed he had to work with Tip O'Neal. That is where the deficits came from. Reagan got his policies passed O'Neal got his spending. Reagan always regretted the deficits, just go watch his farewell address(it's on youtube). That was was an example of the "compromise" that we tout as being what makes this democracy work.
Hybrid economies don't work in the end. It may take years to see this result, but it is true all the same. Our country has one of these hybrid economies. Its easy to attack the USA and our capitalist system, but hard to realize that our system is really a hybrid between socialism and capitalism. When government blows billions of dollars, saves failing companies, attacks small business, then after all this they look to business to start hiring people and business doesn't. Maybe, they should admit that it is going to take the free market to create jobs. Maybe, government should get out of the way and stop attacking business. Maybe, they should help business.

What can I say other than we disagree on the premis.

I read recently that you can tell who's right and left by a brain scan. Peoples brains are just wired differently.;)

Someone who made a career of colliding with other behemoths is fit to lead? Lead what exactly? The simple fact that someone of that ilk is actually elected to anything speaks volumes as to why this country is in its current state.
Indeed. In American politics, the level of name-recognition a candidate has is typically much more valuable electorally than intellect or aptitude. It really come down to heuristics. People tend to vote for the individual whose name they best recognize. If you have time, pick up David Mayhew's 'The Electoral Connection'. It's a short, albeit wonkish read, but he really gets to the nuts and bolts of electoral behavior. Some of you might find it somewhat illuminating.

.... and why are people threatened by that word?
Good question. Ironically, the individuals who typically decry intellectualism are the same who revere the Framers who were the most intellectual and, dare I say, "elitist" men of their day. Kind of an interesting dynamic, if I must say.
Sorry. I suffer from a serious case of typosis. Don't worry, it's not contagious :)
