We need something like generals and colonels actually ralling their men. Many men were encouraged when their general stood infront of the flaming battle line and looked at the enemy. So riding your horse around a low moral unit should raise it's moral extra fast, and possibly have them charge the enemy if you move out too far.

Following up on this, if an brigade or regimental officer gets shot, the regiment should "charge" to avenge his death.

Last point, making a charge stop should be able to happen. A lot of times, the Rebs would charge to just scare the Yanks, then stop, fire a volley, and finish their charge.

Oh, one more thing, for the Rebs, there should be a Rebel Yell that takes away moral from green or lightly trained units that haven't heard the yell before, but is should only happen during a charge or something, if requested by commander. However, there should be some tax on this function.

Also along the same lines, the other aggraving retreating thing is when a unit, cavalry in this case is TC'd to charge a battery and then after capturing a few skeedaddles into a full blown retreat. It would be great to at least be able to unconditionally unTC that retreating unit on the fly before it reaches its rest destination. Same with infantry regiments.

I think you might have misunderstood. My point had nothing to do with retreating or not, only the ability to unTC a TC'd retreating unit on the fly. The advantage is if the unit has really low morale on the verge of routing, their commander could find and rally them automatically. This could be important if there's a lot else going on and there's no time to wait for the end of retreat destinaton in order to unTC. Also its easy to forget to unTC units because of the length of time it takes for the unit to reach its stop retreat destination.

I doubt that I would add that. TC means you have taken charge of those units and they are under your direct care. That's the risk you take.

Much of this finesse that you suggest is something that we probably won't look into for the initial release. My first goal is always to make a solid game. We will look into the finer points after this release. I'm sure that there are a ton of ideas here and I know the team has a ton of ideas too. We'll get there.

Norb, I would like to join Ironsight here. It was one of the topics I once launched on the TC2M forums.

In addition to Ironsight's plea, I would like to ad following argument = when a TC unit retreats, you can't un-TC it. That means this unit will be moving out of the field of operation - or the frontline.

Then another event comes to cope with, then yet another - and in the end of battle those regiments that once retreated under TC are still there at the end of the battle.

I deeply respect players that pause the game often and asses on details, but I'm not one of those players. For me it's total action without pausing the game - live the action live ... and when you have army, corps and even division command I find Ironsigths remark a very important one. Because in the end a few regiments might have saved the day for the player.

:)

I just experience a case where I withdrew a regiment from action, TCed it, marched it's reinforcement's forward, marched it back to a commander, stuck it there until it got to GOOD. Then unTCed it, and it ROUTED! What the heck! It was at uneasy before I withdrew it from the front lines! Something is NOT right there. Something for the new game to fix. If a unit has a bad moral, and it gets raised, normally they don't route!

I would like to see a button at the reg/brigade level that allows your men to seek best available cover. If I have a brigade/regiment near a sunken road or fence line or woods line or rocks I shouldn't have to position each unit to get the maximum terrain bonus when I put them into battle line. They would have wanted to find the best cover around and surely wouldn't have stood 3 feet behind a stone wall. I know in Antietam it was a bugger getting all the guys lined up in the sunken lane. In Gettysburg it was hard to get all the men against the stone wall. Just a thought.

That is exactly what we need. I wrote a post somewhere that sayed we need to include type in orders that allow you to make your subordinates follow your instructions. I bet it disappeared. I wrote that an hour ago...
