Mods and the Campaign

This is where our experts try to teach you the very flexible modding system for our previous release - SOW Gettysburg and its add-ons. It's powerful, but dangerous. Post your tips and your questions.

Mods and the Campaign

Post by Trilogy »

My understanding is that mods aren't available in the campaign scenarios. You can only use them in the User Scenarios. So... is there a way to import the campaign scenarios into the user list *with* casualty carry over enabled?

I already have the historical scenarios in my User Scenarios list, but they have carryover disabled. (And they also seem to always give the maximum number of forces with no variation. Is that so?)

I'm just looking for a way to play the Gettysburg campaign scenarios with carryover, variations, and with mods enabled. Is there any way to do this?

Thanks!

Download the SDK from the main SOW site. It contains all of the historical scenarios with carryover enabled. Then just create a folder in your Mods directory called "Historical Scenarios", in that folder create a folder called "Scenarios", then copy all of the historical scenarios there. Enable the mod in the game, and you are good to go. :)

I see that I have to change the name of the scen's folder for it to get picked up in the User Scenarios menu. (e.g. I have to change the sub-folder "GB01-etc" to "xGB01-etc") Is this because, if I keep the original name, the game thinks it's a campaign scenario and not a user scenario?

Having changed the sub-folder name, have I messed up the carryover feature? How does a scenario know which is its "successor"?

The name must be changed in the 'carryover to' scenario config file. Open the 'carryover to' scenario folder, then the scenario config file, and you'll see the 'carryover from' name referenced. Change this name to your new name, save, and it's fixed to carryover.
