Project Gutenberg

Here you can talk about whatever floats your boat. Your favorite movie, sports team, etc. If it's a little racey, I suggest you post in R&R, otherwise we'll move it for you.

Project Gutenberg

Post by 2nd Kentucky »

http://www.gutenberg.org/wiki/US_Civil_War_(Bookshelf)

I found this great website a couple of weeks ago that has been invaluable to me for a report for school. Project Gutenberg is a site that contains thousands upon thousands of books papers and other written material that has entered into Public Domain. The link I provided is one for the Civil War. The fiction section contains some great short stories but the real gem is the non-fiction. There you can find many primary sources such as books and journals written by veterans about their particular regiments. I found Sam Watkin's diary and the real intriguing piece to me would be Jefferson Davis's Rise and Fall of the Confederate Government.

I just thought I would share. To view the document without downloading it to your computer, click the link, click download and pick the HTML choice. Happy Hunting.

Well, I can't seem to get the link to work properly. So click the link then go to the sidebar where it says "search site" and "term" and type in civil war. click US Civil War and click on the "US Civil War Bookshelf" and you should be directed to the intended page of the first link.
