Idea for MP Campain Mods

This is where our experts try to teach you the very flexible modding system for our previous release - SOW Gettysburg and its add-ons. It's powerful, but dangerous. Post your tips and your questions.

Idea for MP Campain Mods

Post by Kensai »

Hi Sirs,

me and my frieds in our litte german SOW community had an idea for a simple MP campaign playing MP Battles on an selfmade strategic map. We built a strategic map simply with Windows paint (i will show you the map next time) and wrote our own Game Rules. You have to recruit new troops and conquer cities.

You get (for example) 500 Recruits per round. Normal Infantry costs 1 Recruits Point per Soldier, Cavalry costs 2 Points for one soldier / like sharpshooters and so on. The troops can move on the map.

If you meet enemy troops on this map, you will have an fight in SOW. (Only problem is, that there are only a few maps for SOW..but we use our fantasy

Its much work to save the results (on paper) an create new OOBs for every battles with Gariers OOB Editor. I have created an "Master OOB" with all units on the map for both sides and were i fill in new troop strengths after a battle. (free Infantry brigades, free cavalry brigades, garnison troops, Divisions, Corps and Armies). Before a battle i built a "battle OOB" with the needed troops. And so on. You have to gain Victory Points (with conquering cities an win battles).

Also an idea was, to change the experience in that way the units are organized. Better organized troops habe more experience. Example: 1 Brigade has 8 experience, 2 Brigades only 6 exp...3 Brigades 4 exp...and so on.

If there is an higher organisation (like a division) the experience of more units in a city will grow. So one Division with 2 Brigades...both Brigades have 8 Exp...

So, its much work to programm the new OOBs and to change the Map in Paint, but its very very very fun.

I would be happy if here are any people you are programmer (like Garnier) who can create a Mod like this for MP Battles on an strategic map. ;)

We'd actually been working on this with past campaign models, usually breaking the strategic map up into a basic hex map with movement and supply rules, etc. Did you ever drop by the Shenandoah Club website? The current campaign hasn't been making a ton of progress but the rule set and all that are laid out in detail.

I think the data will have to come from Mr. Garnier, but here is a link to his campaign mod:

You could (if Garnier allows)register new divisions and only play against each other and then use Garnier's mod for creating battles and keeping stats.

But be warned. . . there are no "8" experience brigades to start with -- conscripts only. But your troops gain experience pretty quick. And whatever rules you were using for gaining experience and such wouldn't work.

Hello KG_Soldier.

Im registerd there :) , but it looks like the playtime of the players is the US primetime. Its would be for me possible to join it in my Holidays only B).

So my question is similar to Kensais question. Is there a way to get the battleresults into a textfile for players, which can`t join the other battles of Garniers Mod as example or is it a upcomming feature ?(Norb  ?) Or can somebody help here to create the files?

Each help is greatly appreciated :).

Hi Greni,

I played my first GMC game from about 9.00 to 10.15 last night (UK time) and the co-players were mainly US-based but myself, Cleburn and MCD are in the UK, UK & France respectively. There would seem to be a few potential players for games to take place in the evening European time. I don't know if this is possible within GCM and don't want to step on any toes, but may be worth exploring.

All you need is 2 GCM players, one of which must be able to host games.

@Blaugrana

Thx for the informations, saw on Monday evening a few funny guys. But i have planned with Kensai and Avalon a small battle. For myself i need a little more experience before i enter the battles with the Garnier Mod.

Is there no other possibilty to get the results out of the game without Garniers Mod?

:)
