Maybe this has been addressed... points for victory?

Post by Lord Ashram »

Hey all,

Maybe this has already been addressed... but I've found that the scenarios in the game are VERY very difficult... and the points almost feel a bit TOO hard to get... I played one scenario recently (The Wheatfield, I believe) where I routed every enemy on the battlefield, held the objective, captured almost every Federal gun within sight... and still fell thousands of points short of any sort of victory. To get even close to the points would have required some sort of insane charge that would have been a bit much...

Has the extremely high victory requirements for some scenarios been discussed anywhere yet?

Yeah, the wheatfield is a bitch to win, but it is doable. There are only two scenarios that are currently unbeatable and awaiting the patch -- Armistead at the Angle and Stannard on the flank.

The next patch, coming real soon, should address remaining high score issues. If you think a scenario is impossible, move on for now, the cavalry is coming. :)

This one is interesting, because it all has to do with how the Rebs have done in a previous scenario. For example, if your rebs took a lot of casualties in The Round Tops scenario, (Anderson) then he won't be much of a fighting force in The Wheatfield. Same when Kershaw attacks. If he took a lot of losses in GB11 and GB12, he won't do much in GB13.

Keep trying. We've gotten a lot of comments about the scenario's being hard, but this is a good thing. We made sure the scenario's were challenging. We played them over and over and over.. Some were too easy, we made them harder. Some were too hard, we made them easier.

All scenario's are beatable (especially now with the latest patch). If you are a relatively new player and find all scenario's overall to be too hard, just scale back the difficulty and see how you do. Once you get more experienced, you can increase it again. Remember, each scenario will be different every time you play it. :)

Another importing thing to note. We are recreating history here. Historically, if a particular engagement was tough for one side or commander, it's going to be tough in this game. For example, the McPherson's Ridge scenario (GB02). It was TOUGH for Heth to clear the federals off of the ridge. Archer was facing The Iron Brigade (a bunch of bad dudes), and Davis was a brand new to command. So again, if it was tough for those guys, it's going to be tough for you. :)

Has this been addressed or is it still being looked at?

While I'm still shaking out my mediocre results, I've had a few that I thought would be a nice victory to only end up with a defeat screen. The vp system seems to be all over compared to TC2M.

The scores are all final for this game, no further changes will be made. Yes they are hard but every scenario is beatable. We had many people becoming generals within a week of the game being released and were saying it was too easy! ;)

Don't be ashamed to scale back the difficulty level. Once you get more experienced, you'll be able to beat them all on Normal. And if you need help in a particular scenario, just post here and we'll help you win it. We've done it for several players.

There's also talk of including a few brigade level scenarios for beginners in the next patch. Stay tuned on that one.
