SARGE (carry-over thread)

Here you can talk about whatever floats your boat. Your favorite movie, sports team, etc. If it's a little racey, I suggest you post in R&R, otherwise we'll move it for you.

SARGE (carry-over thread)

Post by J Canuck »

Hey Sarge ..... how’s it going?! How old is your newborn now? Getting sleep yet? Are you doing anything serious musically these days???

I still hammer away at Gettysburg occasionally; but I have gotten wrapped up in quite a new time-eating priority. Since I took early retirement, it placed the burden of having to manage my retirement savings squarely on my shoulders. Hence, I have been learning economics and financial investing; aka stock-picking. I am quite enjoying this as a new part-time occupation (it’s reminding me how much I miss poker). Throughout my life I never felt fulfilled unless I was constantly learning something new.

Furthermore, for some unknown reason I’ll hear something on the radio these days, a lick/rhythm will jump out at me and I’ll end up spending days/weeks composing tunes around the licks. I have spent hoards of time on my daughter’s electronic keyboard. I always wondered why I was never satisfied with my left hand until I read of research concluding that all accomplished musicians, athletes, actors, composers, lawyers (in other words the top tier in every discipline) have something in common: 10,000 hours of practice. Furthermore, practice eventually relocates the skill from a fully conscious part of one's brain to a semi-conscious part (can't recall the scientific names of these brain segments). Ever hear of the "Zombie" effect? Think of the rhythms/tunes you can play expertly while your focused on something entirely else - sort of like walking. I’ve even been thinking of looking up some of my old band-mates whom I haven’t heard from in decades. (Is this called getting carried away :side: )

Periodically I still lurk around here. If I did more than lurk, I know I would get addicted to multi-player. Just wish I had the time to keep up with all my interests. I never did get to finish my stab at authoring the saga of Zeke, Billy at Antietam over on the TC2M board; or do you know whatever happened to those guys???

Then there is the Honey Do renovation list, and so on and so on ....................

Canuck!! Sounds like you're having a damn-dandy early retirement :) Haven't had much time myself for any music playing - I am getting some sleep  - but then I am working 10 hour shifts/5 nights at an average of 600+ miles on the road every week.....works out to about 2,500 in a month :S

Ohhhhh and I know about the "Honey Do" - my 2 nights off I spend a good majority of it whittling down that list!:side:

Oh yeah.....and the "Zombie" effect........we called that "Space";)

Sarge

p.s. as for Zeke and Billy......I think they took a trip down to the Antietam itself and went fishin':)

These days everything has to condense to sound-bytes. I still prefer the Old English: “spaced-out”Image

Watch out the hernias don’t catch ya ...... your getting up there laddie. Keep working like that and you’ll be prematurely joining my infamous Curmudgeon Corps!

After a month of intermittent battling, finally beat back the Rebs at GB09 Sickles Stays Home and attained a milestone last night: my best GSOW score so far: 32,708 ..... not bad chicken feathers – eh?!

Brings back some found memories talking with you Sarge ..... Salute!
