Here you can talk about whatever floats your boat. Your favorite movie, sports team, etc. If it's a little racey, I suggest you post in R&R, otherwise we'll move it for you.
I think our military is also over-stretched. I mean we still are in Korea; don't we still have bases in Germany? I know it seems kind of "inhumane" but I would rather have men and women in American uniforms back home instead of fighting another country's war. A fairly hand off approach to war.
That changes when America is threatened. For example in Afghanistan, take the suckers out and don't try to let "locals" handle the best chance we have of catching the ring leaders. When war is needed in defense of America, let the dog off the chain, don't let politicians play soldier. Let the dog off the chain, get business done and get the troops back home.
But none of that probably matters, just coming from an arrogant little child lol

We are definitely not over stretched for the type of operation we are fighting. In fact we are more than capable of fighting the type of conflict currently going on in Libya. We have plenty of aircraft carriers or land based aircraft which have very little to do. We don't need that many ground support aircraft for low intensity conflicts such as Iraq and Afgan, obviously we need some there but its a fraction of what we needed during the first months of those wars. We are not nor will we be deploying ground troops to Libya apart from maybe some special forces. The U.S. Navy outside of carrier support in the Gulf maybe has nothing really on its plate other than standard deployments so cruise missile strikes are a walk in the park even while fighting two wars elsewhere int he world.
The Army might be over stretched, the rest of the military is not and we are not using the Army in Libya.
As far as Korea, we still have support personal in Korea as well as I believe 1 combat Brigade, something in the range of a total of 27,000 military personal I believe. We still have personal in Germany but that is mainly for logistical reasons, and we need those troops in Germany to support the wars in Afgan and Iraq.
Not saying Libya is the right thing to do but it's a far different situation than Iraq or Afgan and its something that with the current mission we are more than capable of doing. That being said its certainly a sticky situation but I think Obama was probably scared that the situation would spiral out of control and there is a lot of guilt in the western world about not stepping in to stop civilian massacres that have happened throughout Africa in the past 15 years or so (Rwanda comes to mind) and this is an easy place to step in and make us feel better about ourselves.
Also not that it really counts for much but as far as the "Allies" are concerned the USA was probably the most reluctant to get involved while France was gun ho from the start...
