Question About Support and Command

Post by McHugh »

Do regiments get the support bonus if a regiment from a different brigade is beside them? As a general question are there benefits to keeping the regiments of a brigade in reasonable proximity of each other? In regards to command other then "take charge", do formations have to be within a certain distance of their commander to obey orders? Any replies, tips, or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Reg's can get support from any reg's on the same side.

formations do not have to be within any range of their commander to obey orders from that commander.

Using the tutorials to learn the game and currently on the Division tutorial. I clicked on the commanders of various batteries and brigades and clicked the "1" key but it is not allowing me to take charge of the unit. Still only displaying the gray wall with the three options of send, receive, or go. Tried it with the Num Lock on and off but still doesn't work. What am I doing wrong?

Are you pressing the 1 key on the number pad?

No, I am pressing the 1 key on the main keyboard. As mentioned, I also toggled the Num Lock key to see if that made a difference. When I read the keyboard section in Help, it indicated that the number keys on the NumPad brought up things like the move, combat, and orders buttons.

No those are the old keys. The keys have been updated with several changes/additions in the beta patch. The patch installs a file called "defaultkeys.csv" in your Work folder. You need to backup your keyboard.csv file (or delete it if you don't want to ever use the old keys again), then rename defaultkeys.csv to keyboard.csv and the new keys commands will work.

The full list of keyboard changes (and new graphic) will be in the final patch. Until then you can just open up the new keyboard file and check out the changes. It's in excel and easy to read.

Edit: I'm going to post a sticky topic about this and include the new keyboard graphic.

Okay I see the two Excel files. Just to clarify, I could rename the Keyboard file to something like Keyboard1 as my back up and then rename the defaultkeys file to Keyboard and the new commands should work. Is that correct? Thanks for all your help.

Must be something about the Corps Tutorial Scenario. I changed the defaultkeys file to Keyboard after renaming Keyboard to Keyboard1. When I clicked on Wright who is under the command of Sedgwick, the new commands such as Numpad6 to display the move buttons worked. However, when I clicked on Heckman (artillery battery, Schimmelfemnig, Osborn (artillery again), or Schurz it only shows the gray wall with the three buttons. Clicking on Numpad 1 does not display the command buttons, so it does not revert that unit to TC. Is this scenario set up so that only the units under the command of Sedgwick can be TC'ed?

In the Divisional Tutorial, all units have their command buttons displayed.

If my assumption in my first paragraph is correct, what is the procedure for allowing me to TC units not under the command of my "ME" character?
