To Multiplayer or Not to Multiplayer...
Re: To Multiplayer or Not to Multiplayer...
I was wondering if a flash signal can be activated in the forum titles some where to alert game being formed up in the MP Lobby. It would stay up flashing until the game starts and starts up again when another game starts. You have many viewers and few members on the forum each day lets get them involved a little.

Just another thought sense most people come to the home page first, put a flashing signal there as well. For example a game starting in 15 minutes in the Multiplayer Lobby!

The person who is starting a game will activate an icon button of some sort which activates an alarm or signal in the forum and home page as well as the multiplayer lobby.

To multiplayer or not to multiplayer that is the question...
Well - I just found out today that I can host so you all better damn well decide to multiplayer.

Re: To Multiplayer or Not to Multiplayer...
I believe there are a number of reasons why there is not a larger multiplayer contingent. Many of which have already been brought to light in this thread.
In my case... I have for months battled my service provider to install a more efficient connection. One that can smoothly handle online gaming. As some of you know, I was one of the first wave of multiplayer adherents, but... like many of us who are "period buffs" but not necessarily "gamers", I found that a solid connection is critical. Drop offs, and freezes where frustrating. Now my problem is simply available time.
One reason that has not been addressed yet is that there is a larger contingent of older, less computer savvy codgers like myself that are attracted to this game, but do not have the online gamers "chops". There is a definite learning curve to the multitasking necessary for the online experience that can scare the hardiest of senior citizens....
* Plugging into the current online battle
* Keeping a stable line of communications on Teamspeak AND the game without locking up your screen
* Making sense of the communications etiquette and workflow
* Being up to date on the games "current" nuances (column charges, doublequick marches, uber sharpshooters, etc.) so as not to make a complete fool of ones self.
* Having a handle on what your part actually is in the current battle.
..... Only then can you get down to what drew you to the game in the first place. It is a lot of extraneous knowledge that comes naturally to a younger player, but scares the beejesus out of folks like myself that where brought up with 12" black&white televisions
However... having said that, I have found that the multiplayer community is FULL of fellows that will help guide you through the "layers" and ultimately get you to that point where you are mentally transported, and find your heart actually racing as you try to nudge your exhausted regiments forward.

Re: To Multiplayer or Not to Multiplayer...
Our MP games have been quite stable since the patch and even for a while before that. Perhaps you can come try again ORourke.
Jack ONeill has come out and played a few here lately and not crashed, as he so often used to.
We have our share of 5 v 5 games and sometimes 6 v 6. But it sure would be nice to have 8 v 8 or even 10 v 10 games every once in a while.
That big new map is begging for it.
